I will be driving from D.C. on Friday morning most likely. Probably aiming to leave roughly around 11 AM (right when the morning trafficshouldbe dying down). It looks like its about a 3.5-4 hour drive for me, so I could probably pick a few people up on the way. My car can hold 4 people in addition to myself, but keep in mind that it will get crowded quick with peoples luggage and such. Send me a PM if you think you're on the way since I don't log on here too often but PMs send me an email.I play the games rul gud.-

Favorite challenges were Idol Hands (not just because I told my tribe about the toss and swipe method which Shea used to amazing effect), Water Relay and the Charades challenge. My main suggestion for the charades challenge is to remove the subjectivity that caused the results to leave everyone feeling salty. Namely, don't worry about starting at the same time as much (just standardize whether people can be next to the hat initially, and compare stop watch times instead) and DEFINITELY just go with the film in the first place. It would be fine to have judges to call out penalties so people stopped increasing the penalties on themselves, but the final tally of infractions should have been from the film in the first place. Having different judges almost guaranteed that there would be subjective application of penalties.
I think in general it would've been cool to have more relays that involved 1v1s to score points for your team. Idol hands is a great style of challenge imo. If we could add in some sort of obstacle course (nothing too crazy) that involved going over and under things that would be really cool.
I echo the sentiments that the puzzle challenge wouldve been better with slightly smaller puzzles, or assigned roles. Also I think it would've been vastly improved if we'd thought to separate the tables first. Oh well. In general I think more challenges should have designated members for different sections as it adds to the pressure and makes the whole thing more dynamic. I also think more challenges should have multiple legs, i.e. the water relay could've had a puzzle once the bucket was filled. Definitely also agree that there should be more physical challenges. Like yes, we're all nerdy, but I don't think it can be called survivor if the physical threats aren't in some way actually physical threats.
I really liked gross eating. While it may have been unfair to Shea I don't think the mods anticipated that, and they also couldn't have known who was in the challenge when they drew it up. Although it was unfair, I think it was in the spirit of surivivor. If for whatever reason you cant do a challenge, you lose that challenge. its shitty that you have to choose between game and morals but i truly believe that is in the spirit of the game. Morals vs Game is like one the most prominent themes of the show.I play the games rul gud.-

Mhmm. As I said I respect your opinion and won't debate you on it. I'm sure I'd have a different perspective if this was something that impacted me. Easy for me to look at it as I do from my position. In post 1173, Thestatusquo wrote:Rules of the game defines the morals within the game. This is why I can punch you in the face if we're boxing but not if we're playing checkers. The rules of survivor are such that backstabbing et al are baked into the game you are playing. Again, I am morally opposed to punching people in the face, but I have no problem doing so when I'm boxing.
on the other hand, my decision to not eat meat is a moral decision that transcends the rules of the game. Eating meat is not made substantively different in terms of its global environmental impact because it happens during a game of survivor. So, while it may be a thing that happens within survivor and is therefore "fair game" I am making a prescriptive argument, not a descriptive argument. I am not arguing that it is not a thing that happens in survivor, I am arguing that it ought not to happen in our games of survivor, because it is substantively different in terms of how it fits into peoples world view. I have no problem betraying people in a game of survivor because that is what the game of survivor is about. It is therefore not immoral to do so. But making it part of the game does not change my feelings on out of game morality. If I backstab someone in a game of survivor they are not backstabbed out of the game. If I eat meat in the game not only will I still have eaten meat outside of the game, but also I will probably get very fucking sick because I haven't eaten meat in 2 years and my body is no longer used to it. There is no reason to have this challenge besides "well, its a thing that sometimes happens." but there have been plenty of seasons without an equivalent challenge, its not like its not survivor without it. That means it is a conscious choice to alienate vegetarian players when you could....just....not do that? Additionally, as I already mentioned, even if you insist there has to be a gross food challenge (which, again, not true) it can easily be done vegetarian.I play the games rul gud.-
