agree, people shouldn't tell shit to some internet strangers they don't know and then be pissed when internet strangers they do know see it

banning personal shit is silly but the line needs to be a bit more strict imo. these games aren't your diary

hey quakers are not like amish or mormons they are modern people with their very own youtube channel containing such informative videos as "what is a quaker?" "what can i expect at a quaker meeting for worship?" and "#justquakerproblems"

i mean i told a story in this game about how my mom was wanting to buy a house and it was stressing me out because i wasnt sure she was ready for it, etc

it was actually me i was talking about

but then like the whole aria thing where she was super personal? that might be stuff that shouldn't be public idk

i know i also got yelled at for wanting to peek @ PMs between xof/bbm during PSV to see what was happening w/ that drama

but maybe yeah super personal shit is bad

yo i said mine was different man come ahhn

iirc the problem xof had with the hyrule stuff also had a lot to do with PMs showing up as read when the player themselves hadn't looked at them yet

i mean, was aria talking to juno or mags about her depression a bad thing? i don't think so, hiplop. they asked "are you ok?" and she opened up to them and they all had a good, cathartic, not really IDing experience together. why does that not have a place in survivor games?

I would be perfectly fine about a ban on personal talk, actually that would probably make me a comparatively better player since I try to avoid doing that kind of stuff anyway.

On that note, I'd be fine with people looking at my PMs, and I kind of doubt that anyone would mind sharing their PMs to me. I'm pretty much always out of the loop, but it could at least be a place to start.

EDIT: Though I think I may have horrifically failed at not being personal about how stressed each game made me. I still don't care though, because I assume every PM I send could be copied and sent to someone else.

I appreciate this.

I'll leave it at that.

Yes, that's exactly the main thing. It can make PMs be missed and out of order if someone else is opening them. And you wouldn't know that that is happening. That was more of my issue than I was bothered by someone else reading my PMs.

Look at it this way: if someone shares something personal with me as an anonymous player in a game, I feel totally within my rights to turn around and tell whoever I want about it if that'll gain me an in-game advantage.

This is precisely my stance on this.

Survivor is, and has always been, a social game. This isn't chess, and I think it's a big mistake to limit what discussion can be had.

Sure. No argument from me.

Sure.

In some cases I think there's a semi-spoken "we're not going to share this with anyone else during the game or ever" thing that develops between people who are both looking for that. I don't think breaching it would be in violation of any rules or punishable, obviously, but I'd definitely have hard feelings about it. Have yet to misjudge anyone that severely, self-disclosure has a way of becoming a two way street or not happening at all. I feel comfortable with that risk, but others might not.

Just because it's a game doesn't mean that basic aspects of human decency go away.
