Welcome to Ned's Declassified School Survivor Guide, or
School Survivor
for short!

It's your middle school graduation ceremony, and you know what that means. You're about to enter the frightening world of high school, filled with cliques, bullies, and unrealistic expectations. While you're in it, everything seems like the most important thing in the world, but once it's over, no one will care about anything that happened in it. So there's already a large amount of similarities with a game of Survivor.

School Survivor
is an anonymous Survivor game for 27 players. The game will be more fast-paced and involved than most anonymous games, so we recommend that you only sign up if you are willing to devote at least a couple hours a day to the game, especially at the start of the game.

APPLICATION FORMIf you'd like to sign up for this game as a player or spectator, please fill out this application form.

GLOBAL RULES

[A01]
This is a game. You should play to have fun, and to win. You should not prohibit others from doing the same. You should show respect to all participants at all times. We understand this is a game that deals with a lot of emotions, and you should feel free to show that emotion -- just don't push it too far. Where "the line" is will be handled on a case by case basis.

[A02]
This game is anonymous. You should at no point hint at your own identity, or communicate with any person about the game outside the private message system unless permitted to by the mods.

[A03]
You should not take any action which disrupts or undermines the integrity of the game. You should also not take any action that brings the game into disrepute. This includes, but is not limited to, cheating in or explicitly seeking to break challenges, communicating with players you are not permitted to, communicating information using screenshots or PM forwarding. If in doubt, ask.

[A04]
If there is a problem, or there has been a mistake made, discuss it with a mod.

[A05]
In superficially breaking one of the rules in this ruleset, an Official Warning will be given. If the breach is substantial, or a second breach of any named rule is made, discretionary sanctions will be applied. If the breach if excessive, or a further breach is made after sanctions, you will be modkilled. This is your only (unofficial) warning.

[A06]
We reserve the right at any time to implement new rules. We reserve the right to use our discretion in disciplining players as we see fit, if a situation not covered by these rules arises, using A05 as a guide. We reserve the right to refrain from disciplining players if we believe the offence is sufficiently minor. Should these rules be substantively altered at any time, you will be informed.

FORMAT

[B01]
Generally, in Survivor, players are split into tribes and participate in challenges. After each challenge, losing tribes must vote off one of their own, in a secret vote. After a period of time, the tribes merge. The last player standing wins.

[B02
At an unknown point in the game, players voted out will begin to form the jury, which will vote on the winner from the final two or three players remaining at the end of the game.

[B03]
You may only PM members of your tribe. You may use any provided forum spaces to communicate with anyone who has access to them.

[B04]
You will have a confessional that only the mods, spectators, and you can read. We expect players to make at least one post in their confessional each game round.

MECHANICS

CHALLENGES

[C01]
Each round may have immunity challenges and/or reward challenges.

[C02]
All outcomes are final, subject to A04.

[C03]
Winners of immunity challenges will be safe from elimination that round, and will not be eligible for being voted out in a tribal council. Winners of reward challenges will be eligible for a reward, as described in that challenge.

[C04]
A range of challenge styles has been designed, to test different skills. We cannot provide for all players all the time, but we have tried our best to make challenges as level and fair as possible.

TRIBAL COUNCIL

[D01]
Each round will have at least one tribal council.

[D02]
All outcomes are final, subject to A04.

[D03]
Tribal councils will always last 24 hours from notification. A failure to vote will cause the offender to self-vote. Repeated self-votes, deliberate or accidental, may result in punishment, as per A01 and A05.

[D04]
You may modify votes at any time, but please use a new post to do so. The moderation team will not alter council results due to a missed edited post. This is your only warning.

TRIBAL COUNCIL TIES

[E01]
In the event of a tie at a council, a revote will take place. Only those players tied for the highest number of votes will be eligible candidates. Those eligible candidates will not be able to vote.

[E02]
Reward items will carry through a tie vote. Reward items, unless otherwise stated, may not be played in a revote.

[E03]
If a plurality is not found in a revote, or there is otherwise still a tie, all non-tied players without immunity, whether via Individual Immunity or via Rewards, will randomly draw a rock. The player who draws the sole purple rock will be eliminated.

[E04]
Should there be only four players remaining in the game, a tiebreaker challenge will instead take place.

TWISTS

[F01]
Twists have been preplanned and placed ahead of time, to be enacted without provocation. Twists are not designed with any player in mind, but have been blindly designed. We have made every effort to ensure the fairness of twists.

[F02]
Should there be a conflict between in-game explanations and these rules, such as the text of a Reward Item, that in-game explanation will supersede these rules.

Please note: even if you are not immediately accepted, that doesn't mean you are out! We will be keeping a list of potential replacements in case we have any no-shows in the first 24-48 hours.

The forums have been opened for all to see, here's the link for anyone interested: http://s15.zetaboards.com/School_Survivor/index/

After this game, I don't know if I can ever mod another Survivor game again, and I unfortunately don't have any desire to. Hermione, you played great and we couldn't have asked for a better winner (besides Dick obviously). To everyone, I apologize, but this was not a super fun time, and being involved in all the pettiness has made me question why I do this at all. I'll continue running non-Survivor games where people don't act like high schoolers (ha) and may try my hand at modding Survivor off-site after this.

It's a game, I hope everyone had fun, but don't treat this as more than a game.

i have Thoughts with a capital t, but I'll wait a while to voice them (if i do at all). Here's some small t thoughts.

1: I was rooting against you Reck but you played a fucking blistering game. Holy shit that was a fucking great winner's game, good job.
2: Juno, I've said shitty stuff about you, but don't let it deter you from playing again my man. You freakin played a game worthy to be proud of capped off by a wonderful FTC that almost gave you the whole game.
3: Dan, you nearly went 2 for 2 holy shit you're a force.
4:
I'm not the first australian two time player to come 14 then 17
. yes i am. literally fuck my life holy shit.

edit 5: count the swear words my god am i a bad writer

Thanks guys.

I'm sorry the juries on MS have become more about staking your own claim rather than discussing the win.

I'm sorry many people considered my win boring.

I'm proud of it either way.

This is now at least the second game in a row where toxic specs & juries have made the end feel like a buzzkill.

It's a fucking community problem and if you want this community to thrive you guys need to fucking fix it.

I AM READING AND I HAVE A THOUGHT

The idol clue was about the idol being "ate" . . . why was it not about a dog eating it like it was homework? This is what I thought it was going to be and I thought that was so clever but then some babies just ate them

That being said:

Jess, you were great this game. Really did enjoy our early chats. I think that abusing deadlines is a little shady but that may be because it caused me to have problems IRL and I hated that. I think it should never be a matter of "oh this person has more free time and can sit around and wait for deadline". The purpose of 24h deadlines is to give everyone a chance to participate. I don't think there's an easy way to fix it, but it's just being mentioned now because it was such a really blatant abuse of the deadline system. I understand that makes me an ass because I'm bringing up a problem without any way to fix it. But then again, it's not really my job to do that. I'm sad you played yourself into a corner, that sucked. I personally started trying to solidify other options at the Rizzo vote, and after the Blair vote when you went postal publicly, there was no way to continue to work with you. That really did suck.

Sens, I did enjoy talking to you. I thought you played a decent UTR game that was just so close to being amazing. But it wasn't quite there. I still enjoyed our conversations and you did touch me personally when you talked to me.

@Mods: Thanks for running a game where people were being super salty & awful. I'm sorry it sapped your will to mod because you guys are good mods.

@Specs: I haven't read your shit yet but I can't wait for it!

@Jury: Half of you were great, some of you got bad raps, some of you got the reputation you deserved for being bitchy and hard to deal with. I think maybe we've reached a bad turning point in MS Survivor where juries feel the need to be ~iconic~ rather than spread shit out. yes, juries are going to be emotional. I tend to err on the side of just letting people vent, because it's Survivor and people get emotional. But there used to not be this toxicity after the games. I dunno how much of it is jury versus specs, but yeah.

Anyway, it's been a fucking blast playing with y'all. You can ask Brock, I legitimately got emotional when i found out that I had actually won. It meant something to me. I'm sorry it ended up so toxic. I am. I wish it wasn't. I did love this community and I hope that some time to reconsider perspectives will make me realize why I loved it again.

see i'm not sure this game was actually that toxic except for the spec threads for one episode. the rest...didn't seem that toxic? i mean, i was a little toxic and i apologize for it. but...it wasn't even...that ugly?
