Spoiler: Hardest String of Characters
Image

For the record, everyone got the same string of characters, with additional characters added on if they had more than everyone else. For example, Xalxe had 206 characters, so his characters were the first 206 characters in everyone else's string.

Posted: Sun Jul 02, 2017 7:58 am
by BROseidon
I was pretty sure you did that for the string because otherwise judging this shit would have been a bitch.

by Xalxe
Good on a fairness front too, no way anybody can say "But X's string was so much easier than Y's!"

by BROseidon
exactly.

Also, I calculated final characters/second for everyone, and he's how it ranks:

Xalxe - 1.43
JDGA - 1.36
BRO - 1.15
Flameaxe - 0.93
kdowns - 0.80
Adorabebs - 0.33

Multiplying that by 12 to get WPM...
(or rather recalculating because I think we handled the mistakes slightly differently)

Xalxe - 17.16
JDGA - 16.89
BRO - 14.12
BBM - 11.10
Kdowns - 9.22
Adorabebs - 3.43

These are all really low compared to our more natural typing speeds because they were random characters rather than actual sentences.

Robot Rat Race

Adorabebs
vs.
Aurathebirb

Adorabebs and Aurathebirb, you've both been voted into the Fortress, and it's time to earn your spot back into the game.

For today's Fortress, you will be working on guiding a robot through a maze. Unfortunately, the robot can only comprehend commands when they're put together 5 moves at a time. Upon beginning the challenge, you will be given a list of possible commands, each comprised of 5 directional movements.

When you are ready to begin, you will receive the maze image as well as the list of commands, starting your time. You will then guide your robot through the maze using the following rules:
  1. The robot starts on the square of the maze marked "S".
  2. A command can only be used
    once
    .
  3. You
    cannot
move through the thick black lines marking the walls of the maze.
  4. If a command causes you to run into a wall, you
    cannot
use it, as the robot blows up upon hitting a wall.
  5. You do not have to use all commands listed; some may be decoys.
  6. There is only one correct order of commands that successfully navigates your robot through the maze and to the marked exit without breaking any of the above rules.
Once you believe you've found the correct solution, post the order of commands, leaving out any that you don't want to use. If you are correct, your time will be stopped. There is not penalty for an incorrect answer, but you will not be told what you have wrong. You have
24 hours
to complete this challenge. Unless you noted your V/LA in advance, then some flexibility may be afforded.

Aurathebirb completed the Fortress in:

Spoiler:
DNF. Uh oh.

Both players did not complete prior to the deadline - but not due to lack of effort because both spent a significant amount of time attempting the Fortress. As such, we will go to a tiebreaker. The player who went further along before hitting a wall will win the tiebreaker.

The eliminated player is:
Spoiler:
Adorabebs completed 2 moves before hitting a wall. Aurathebirb completed 6 correct moves in the sequence. As such, Aurathebirb has won the fortress and Adorabebs has been eliminated.

Aurathebirb has chosen to...
MUTINY
and will now join the
Yellow Team
with the Yellow Team's Safety Token. She has chosen to give the Purple Team's Safety Token to
kdowns

{Episode 05 Challenge}

No Free Rides

Today's challenge... is not a challenge at all. That's right, it's time for a twist. This episode, every team will send one member into the Fortress, where all three will battle it out, and only one person will emerge victorious; the two losers will be eliminated. There's a few things you need to know here.

First, the winner of this Fortress will be given a lot of power. They can mutiny to
any
team they want, AND they will have control over all three Safety Tokens. Additionally, Episode 6 will be another
double elimination round
, where the losing team in the challenge will have to send in two players, while both winning teams send in one. That means holding a Token will be extremely valuable if you're on the losing team.

For the next 24 hours, we will allow all teams to discuss amongst themselves. In case there is anyone itching to get away from their current team,
we will be accepting volunteers
for this Fortress. You have 24 hours to privately let a mod know you would like to volunteer. If only one person volunteers from a team, that player will go in with no standard Fortress selection process, but if 0 or 2+ people volunteer, then the selection process will begin as usual.

Finally, we want to give you all as much information as possible to base your decision on, so in a few minutes we will post the Fortress challenge here. It is a never-before-seen challenge, so we want you all to be as prepared as you can be.

{Episode 05 Fortress}

Melody-Cypher

You've faced a large variety of puzzles throughout this game, but this will be your most challenging one yet. Today's Fortress functions similarly to a standard cryptogram, where each letter in a sentence is replaced by a different letter, number, or symbol. However, this time, each letter has been replaced by a
different musical note
.

When you are is ready to begin, you will receive a link to a 6-second audio file. The sound clip has 33 notes, with any repeated notes representing the same letter of the alphabet. At no point is more than one note playing at the same time. Notes grouped together with no space in between designate letters in the same word, while a rest designates a new word. The sentence you are solving for has no punctuation.

The notes in the cryptogram can span anywhere from C2 to C6. To help you out in identifying which notes are the same, you are allowed to use this online piano to help you out.
No other outside resources of any form are allowed.

You have
24 hours
to complete this Fortress. Once you believe you have solved the cryptogram, post it in your challenge thread, bolded. There is no penalty for a wrong answer, but you won't be told which letters are wrong, and your time will not stop until you post the correct phrase. The player who solves the cryptogram in the fastest time will remain in the game and rejoin the team of his or her choice, holding the Safety Token, while the two losing players will be eliminated. The winner will also pick who gets the Safety Token in the other teams.
