The Friday the 13th films took 10 movies to go into space, but we've devolved into that territory on only our second installment in this franchise. If you're looking to test your mental abilities and prove you're better than 25 other players, or just have fun with some casual puzzles, this is the expedition for you.

Spoiler: Game Rules
General Rules

[A01]
This is a game. You should play to have fun, and to win. You should not prohibit others from doing the same. You should show respect to all participants at all times. We understand this is a game that deals with a lot of emotions, and you should feel free to show that emotion -- just don't push it too far. If in doubt, ask.

[A02]
This game is
non-anonymous.
All actions in the game will take place on Mafiascum. However, players are encouraged to communicate through any other means they find most convenient, such as Skype or Facebook. You are
prohibited
from sharing screenshots of your private conversations, and from sharing private messages in a way that can't be falsified, such as the quote function on Skype.

[A03]
You should not take any action which disrupts or undermines the integrity of the game. You should also not take any action that brings the game into disrepute. This includes, but is not limited to, cheating in or explicitly seeking to break challenges, communicating with players you are not permitted to, communicating information using screenshots or PM forwarding. If in doubt, ask.

[A04]
If there is a problem, or there has been a mistake made, discuss it with a mod.

[A05]
In superficially breaking one of the rules in this ruleset, an Official Warning will be given. If the breach is substantial, or a second breach of any named rule is made, discretionary sanctions will be applied. If the breach if excessive, or a further breach is made after sanctions, you will be modkilled. This is your only (unofficial) warning.

[A06]
We reserve the right at any time to implement new rules. We reserve the right to use our discretion in disciplining players as we see fit, if a situation not covered by these rules arises, using A04 as a guide. We reserve the right to refrain from disciplining players if we believe the offence is sufficiently minor. Should these rules be substantively altered at any time, you will be informed.

Game Mechanics

Format
[/align]

[B01]
This game will consist of 26 players battling it out for an
individual
grand prize. You will team up with other players at many points in the game, but in any challenge where elimination is the consequence for failure, you will be fending for yourself.
[B02]
Every round will contain 3 phases: the Team Mission, the Black Hole Vote, and The Void. Through this process, 2 players will be eliminated each round.

Missions

[C01]
To start every round, all players will be split into two teams. At the start of the game, these teams will be random, but as the game goes on, teams will be divided using a mathematical formula which takes into account performance in previous challenges. This formula is unknown to the players.
[C02]
After the teams are announced, they will compete in a Team Mission. The winning team will receive immunity from entering The Void, a battle for elimination.
ALL
members of the losing team will enter The Void.
[C03]
All outcomes of challenges are final, subject to A04.
[C04]
A range of challenge styles has been designed, to test different skills. We cannot provide for all players all the time, but we have tried our best to make challenges as level and fair as possible.
[C05]
Unless otherwise stated, the use of outside resources during any challenge is strictly prohibited. Any players found in violation of this rule will be immediately eliminated. Regardless, we have tried to craft a game where cheating is, for the most part, impossible.
[C06]
At a predetermined point in the game, Team Missions will switch over to Pair Missions, with randomly determined pairs competing each round. The winning pair will be safe from The Void, while all losing pairs will face it.

Black Hole Vote

[D01]
After a winning team is determined from the challenge, there will be a vote to send players into the Black Hole, a subset of The Void where players are much more likely to be eliminated.
[D02]
All players have 24 hours to cast a single vote privately, choosing between everyone entering The Void. Any player who was a Black Hole nominee during the previous round is ineligible from being one in the current round. You are allowed to vote for yourself if you are eligible. Despite the fact that votes are cast in private, everyone's vote will be publicly revealed at the end of 24 hours.
[D03]
Failure to cast a vote will result in you casting a vote for yourself (or if you were on the winning team, your vote being ignored). Upon a player's third failure to cast a vote, he will be immediately eliminated, and there will be no Black Hole nominees that round. You are allowed and encouraged to cast a preemptive conditional vote if you don't think you'll be able to cast one during the voting period.
[D04]
The 3 players who receive the most votes will become the Black Hole nominees. In the event of a tie preventing there from being exactly 3 players holding the most votes, the tied players in question will be safe, and the remaining players in The Void (who aren't already nominees) will be randomly selected to fill the remaining Black Hole slots.
[D05]
Starting at a predetermined point in the game, there will only be 2 Black Hole nominees every round; all other aspects of the Black Hole vote will remain the same.

The Void

[E01]
After the Black Hole Vote, every round will conclude with The Void, a challenge that all players from the losing team will compete in.
[E02]
The 2 or 3 Black Hole nominees will compete in the same challenge as everyone else in The Void, but the nominees will not be in direct competition with the non-nominees. Instead, the Black Hole nominee who performs the worst in the challenge will be eliminated from the game.
[E03]
Out of the rest of the players competing in The Void, the one who performs the worst in the challenge will be eliminated. This means that during the first round of the game, the Black Hole nominees will have a 1 in 3 chance of being eliminated, while everyone else in The Void will only be at a 1 in 10 risk of elimination.
[E04]
Rules C03, C04, and C05 apply to any Void challenge as well.

Final Mission

[F01]
At a predetermined point in the game, there will be a final mission. It will test many different skills, and at the end one player will be named the champion.

Player Contract

We are requiring all players, in lieu of other methods of rule compliance, to agree to a player contract in submitting an application. Please read it carefully. If you foresee that you will be unable to follow this contract, please discuss it with a mod: while we do want to accommodate you, we cannot accept any player who cannot obey this contract.

[Y01]
By submitting an application to play, you agree to abide by all these rules.

[Y02]
By submitting an application, you agree that you have read and acknowledged all these rules.

[Y03]
By submitting an application, you forfeit ignorance of the rules as an excuse.

[Y04]
By submitting an application, you forfeit plausible deniability of acceptable standards as an excuse. This means you may not claim that you thought your actions erred on the right side of the line.

[Y05]
By submitting an application, you agree to be active in your participation in accordance with these rules, and shall not flake.

[Y06]
By submitting an application, you accept that you are bound by the honour system, and must at all times remain bound by it.

[Y07]
By submitting an application, you accept that breaching this contract may result in replacement, modkilling, sanctions, and/or blacklisting.

[Y08]
If you are unwilling or unable to obey this contract at any time, you must notify the mods
immediately
.

{Mission 01}

Image

Maintenance Task Force

Welcome to the first team mission of the game. Today, you'll be splitting up into specialty groups to show off what you're best at. We can't begin our space voyage yet, as there are some minor repairs that need to be done on each of your ships.

Each team will split up into 3 groups. Group 1 will contain 4 players, and are known as the Spotters. The Spotters on each team will split up into two pairs, and each pair is given a different image of the ship's construction schematics. However, these images have 12 small differences between them, and you'll need to find as many of them as possible by describing the images via text. You are
prohibited
from sharing the image or any portion of the image, and doing so will result in disqualification from the mission. Every difference you find and describe gives your team a 10-second head start in part 3 of the mission; every difference you incorrectly submit will give the opposing team a 10-second head start.

Group 2 will contain 6 players, known as the Fixers. Several important parts of the ship have been shattered, and the Fixers need to put them back together as jigsaw puzzles. Every Fixer on your team will pick a different jigsaw puzzle, numbered #1-#6 based on difficulty, with #1 being the hardest and #6 being the easiest. Attempts at each puzzle are unlimited, but everyone is required to submit a screenshot of their best time by the deadline. The team who achieves the fastest time in each puzzle will receive 10 additional points in part 3 of the mission.

You have
24 hours
to determine who will be your Spotters and who will be your Fixers. The two groups can start whenever you make the official designations. In
48 hours
, part 3 of the mission will begin and the Spotters and Fixers will be stopped.

Group 3 are the Coders, consisting of 3 players on each team. Part 3 of the challenge will be live around 7pm EST Sunday evening, and all Coders will participate. When everyone is ready, a 12x12 grid of letters will be posted. Coders must find words by traveling between adjacent cells horizontally, vertically, and diagonally, and claim a word by posting the coordinate of the first letter followed by the complete word. A single letter block can't be used more than once within the same word. Once a player has claimed a word, the first letter of the word will be removed from the grid, and a blank space will be left, which can no longer be used to form words and can't be skipped over. Each word must be at least 4 letters long. There will be blocks containing "Qu", but for the purposes of scoring and length requirements, a "Qu" only counts as one letter. The challenge ends when no more words can be formed. A new post must be made for every new word, but there are no time restrictions for posting words. If you post a word that isn't recognized by dictionary.com as a common English word, or you post a word that can't be formed with the given grid, your team will lose 5 points. A team scores a point for every letter in each valid word posted.

The team with the most points at the end wins, with ties broken by which team had a greater head start. The grid will be presented and updated using a Google spreadsheet. This will be a fast-moving game, with letters constantly being removed from the grid, so you need to be extremely careful to avoid receiving the 5-point penalty. The losing team will enter the Void, and a vote will be held as for which 3 members of the losing team will enter the Black Hole. 1 person from the 3 entering the Black Hole will be eliminated from the game, while 1 player out of the remaining 10 will also be eliminated.

For clarification, during part 3, you can switch directions in the middle of a word. In that way, it's much more akin to Boggle than a word search.
