Dashboard Confessional

Welcome to your first Void challenge. For each Void challenge, there will be 2 simultaneous competitions. The top 3 vote recipients within the losing team (and later 2) will be nominated for the Black Hole competition where 1 of the 3 participants will be eliminated. The remaining players in the losing team will enter the Void challenge where there is a lesser percentage change of being eliminated.

At the end of this Black Hole voting ceremony, the three players selected for the Black Hole will participate in a challenge where one player will be eliminated. These three players are:

The first Void will test your visual acuity. On your way through space, your ship's dashboard controls have several panels, and it is important that you can read any and all of the meters within a moment's glance. Therefore you will be required to read all of the dashboard meters today to the closest hundredth of a percentage point. However, there will be no markings on these meters to help you out. Each of these meters is a pie chart that equals 100%. Each player must guess how much percent is the blue slice to two decimal points (i.e. 69.42%). Players who can read the meters the best and accurately read the panels will earn stars. The player who submits a guess that is closest to the actual hundredth of a percentage point will earn a star. Once a player has earned two stars, they will be safe. The last player remaining at the end of the competition who failed to earned two stars will be eliminated.

Each player participating in this challenge will be given a link to a google form. Once the player has entered the pertinent information in the google form, their time will start and they will be given a link to a new form. Within that form is a list of the 25 pie charts that represent your dashboard controls. The first dashboard meter will automatically be selected first. Once all submissions are entered, the player who was closest to the actual dashboard meter percentage will earn a star. That player will then get to decide which of the remaining 24 dashboard meters will be used next. As such, when you submit your entry, you will also be ranking your confidence level in each of the dashboard meters; this ranking will be referred to whenever you win a star to determine the next panel that is used. The Void and Black Hole participants will all be competing against each other for stars, even though they're not in direct competition to remain in the game.

If there is a tie to determine the winner of the dashboard meter, then the player who submitted quicker will earn the star. The challenge will continue until 2 of the Black Hole competitors have earned 2 stars (and the 3rd player failed to earn 2 stars) and until 9 Void competitors have earned 2 stars (and the 10th player failed to earn 2 stars). Once a player earns 2 stars or if they have been mathematically eliminated, they will no longer compete for more. You have

24 hours

to submit your entry, upon which the results will be posted. Be cautious with your confidence levels, as this may change the order of the entire challenge and may change the overall results.

Participants in this challenge may not collude or discuss together about this challenge. All outside sources are prohibited.

{Mission 02}

Obstacle Course

After preparing your ship and training in reading your dashboard controls, your team is now ready to lift off! Blasting off will require navigating through four various stages, and in each stage, it would be advisable to have an expert to lead you the way. On a space team, it's always great to have people in various roles, such as engineer, medic, navigator, and captain. However, as we're all starting out on this space journey, it's still tough to know where everyone's strengths lie. Make your best guess and hope that you can assess your own abilities. Being on a team means no one left behind. For this challenge, each player on your team will have to complete the obstacle course and try their best, because the slowest overall time on your team will be your team's overall score. However, experts can help "absorb" some of the poor performance on a specific obstacle by cheering on the slowest teammates.

There will be 4 obstacles which will remain unknown until you begin, and you'll need to appoint 2 experts for each obstacle before anyone can start. You'll need 2

experts. A person cannot be an expert for more than one obstacle. Once you've done this, individuals must contact a moderator when they're ready to begin. They'll be given each obstacle separately when they're ready, and their time on each obstacle will be stopped once they meet its qualifications. The maximum time on each task is

30 minutes

. If you exceed that time or submit an incorrect response for a task, your time will default to the maximum.

Once everyone has finished the challenge, experts will give "assistance" on the obstacles they've been assigned to. Assuming the expert wasn't the slowest on their assigned obstacle, time will be taken off of a team's slowest member on an obstacle, while time is added onto that obstacle's fastest expert at the same rate. Once both experts on an obstacle have matching times, they'll equally split the time of the slowest member. This continues until either 1) the time of the slowest member matches the time of the expert(s), or 2) a tie is reached for slowest time on an obstacle. If the latter is true, all tied players will continue having their time reduced while the experts' times increase at double the rate (or triple if there are 3 tied players, etc.) This continues until both experts have the same time as the tied players.

The details of this process may be hard to understand, but your optimal strategy is essentially to have everyone be as fast as possible, and if your expert on an obstacle is faster than everyone else, it'll help your overall time.

Through this process, your cumulative time across all team members will remain the same on each obstacle. The only difference is that the time is being more evenly distributed.

An image editor such as Paint will be required for multiple obstacles.

No outside resources are allowed, nor is communication about the challenge once players have started on the obstacles.

Since you need all your teammates to cross the finish line, only the final time of your

slowest

member will count in the determination of the winner of this mission. The losing team will enter the Void, and 3 of its members will be sent into the Black Hole.

Once you've decided on the experts for each obstacle, everyone on your team will receive a PM containing links to start each obstacle. Once you submit a form to start an obstacle, your time will start and you will receive another form to complete the obstacle. Remember that you can give up after 30 minutes since that is the maximum time. You have

24 hours

to decide on your experts and

48 hours total

to complete this challenge.

It was a long and arduous obstacle course, but we got through our third challenge in a row where every single player submitted for the challenge in time! A rare feat in a game with 26 participants. The captains of the ship are proud.

We'll go through each obstacle one by one and show everyone's unmodified times before the experts stepped in to help. At the end, we'll show everyone's modified times and totals in order of finish, and the first team for all its members to finish will win.

We've discovered a rules infraction that was made during the last challenge, and the person responsible was disqualified for that section of the challenge. It did not affect the final results. Since we believe the infraction was unintentional, we won't be imposing any penalties, but we want to reiterate:

an outside source includes anything that doesn't come as a result of your own thought or note-taking. This includes a calculator, google,
other people, etc.

Robot Mutation Chamber

Welcome to your second Void challenge. Today's Void will test your logical deduction. When you are ready to begin, fill out

this form

. Upon completion, your time will start and you will receive the link to an image. The image contains 9 lettered mutation chambers arranged in a 3x3 grid, surrounded by alien figures at the beginning and end of each row and column. Each of the 3 aliens on the left of each row passed through the 3 chambers to their right and transformed into the figure to the right of that row. The same is true for the aliens above each column: they passed through the 3 chambers below them and transformed into the figure below that column.

Each chambers affects one, and only one, alteration (including changes in head or body shape, changes in posture (standing up vs. lying down), and addition/removal of antennae or front/back appendages). Note: Some chambers in the same row or column will undo what a previous chamber has done.

It is your goal to identify how each chamber alters the aliens who pass through it. Once you think you've figured them all out, fill out the google form again, this time listing what each chamber does in the space provided. There is only one correct solution. In your descriptions of what a chamber alters, be as specific as possible. An answer such as "changes head shape" is not acceptable, but "changes head to a square shape" would be. Furthermore, if an alien standing up has arms coming from its torso, those appendages correspond to front legs on an alien that's lying down.

No outside sources may be used for preparing or completing this challenge. You may not communicate about the challenge with other players.

All competing players will be ranked based on the number of chambers they correctly identify the effect of, with time acting as a tiebreaker. The lowest-ranked Black Hole nominee and the lowest-ranked Void participant will both be eliminated from the game. You have
