Yeah I'm interested in how BRO got "something basically everyone knows" confused with "niche concept".

Characters in DBZ I could name off the top of my head prior to playing that game:

Goku
Gohan
Vegeta
Piccolo

Like yeah everyone knows what DBZ is but saying it's a commonly watched thing is pretty absurd

tbf the only anime I would call not-niche are like Pokémon, Yugioh, and maybe Naruto

You must not have watched much Toonami as a kid. DBZ was one of their biggest shows for the longest time.

I don't feel like something that has entered common knowledge can possibly be niche. And goddammit even I watched DBZ and I don't watch anime on principle.

Not that many people watched (or still watch - DB Super is part of the lineup) Toonami

Calling DBZ niche but Naruto MAINSTREAM is pants-on-head stupid

Dude Toonami aired on WB every Saturday morning for two years. It was literally a part of Saturday morning cartoons for two years. So many people watched it

Yeah and Naruto ran outside of Toonami on CN for a while

the point is accessibility

to the average kid growing up watching cartoons it was way easier to be exposed to DBZ than Naruto so I don't know how you say DBZ is niche

To the average kid of a specific age range back when anime was barely a thing that registered in the US (Dragonball and Sailor Moon made anime relevant in the US, whereas Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece rode their coat tails after people knew what anime was)

And we're also talking about specifically DBZ which is distinct from DB as a franchise

growing up i never once saw an episode of dragonball

but me and every single kid in my grade knew about dbz

And anyone a few years younger than me barely saw it at all. Hell, DBZ ended its run when I was 11

I've probably seen more Super and Z Kai than Z at this point

Granted, Z Kai is a rerelease of Z

ITT: people don't believe that different things are relevant to different people.

(I grew up watching Dragonball and Dragonball Z, so it's very mainstream to me, but we're all weird nerds so our sense of relevancy is skewed. I would say Dragonball Z is much less obscure than Final Fantasy or Civilizarion or Blizzard games to a random person on the street.)

Eh the FF games and all of Blizzards franchises are insanely successful

The average person on the street won't make this distinction and won't know what Kai is.

Anyways can I interupt you all to say

Yes and the pre-merge is about getting cards to make a Yu-Gi-Oh deck that you'll use to play a tournament to decide who makes the merge.
