Warning about Zetaboards

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Wed Jul 04, 2018 8:45 am

Post by xRECKONERx »

Zetaboards is in the process of transitioning to Tapatalk Groups. While existing Zetaboards will be grandfathered in under the new system, any new forums that are created will have to pay for premium to have access to CSS customization, favicon customization, and the ability to use Javascript. We'd love to hear about alternatives to Zetaboards. And consider this a warning that if you have any games planned, you might want to go ahead and register/create the forum so you can lock in the grandfathered features for free.

I just got an e-mail.
Dear Zetaboard Admins,

As you might be aware Zetaboard is currently transitioning to Tapatalk Groups and you might have received a Site Preview invitation to test your forum on Tapatalk Groups.

To communicate the migration plan better, here is what we have done so far and the steps we will take to transition the entire Zetaboard forums to Tapatalk.

We’ve sent the Preview Invitation to all forums with more than 300 posts to preview the new site
Active forums with less than 300 posts will soon receive our Preview Invitation email.
Today we have enabled CSS customization for all Zetaboard forums. If you have access to the Preview, you can now login to the your Tapatalk Groups as admin. In Manage Settings > ACP, you will be able to further customize your forum including changing the look and feel, and more.
JavaScript availability is still pending but is progressing well. We want to assure you that if you are currently using the JavaScript insertion feature in Zetaboards, you will be able to do so in Tapatalk.
Forums that are not using CSS or JavaScript will soon be receiving the Production Migrations from us, with no less than 14 days after you received the Preview Invitation.
There are confusions among Zetaboard forum admins about certain features that are being grandfathered and how it works in long term since CSS, Custom Domain, Favicon and Javascript features are reserved for Basic or Premium Tier customers on the Tapatalk Groups. If your Zetaboard forum is already using certain features, the same features will be available for you in Tapatalk Groups free of charge, you will be able to make changes just like before and rest assured there will be no expiry date for the grandfathered features.

We also want to welcome you to the Tapatalk Groups - there are also features that you will be able to enjoy that were not available in Zetaboards, including the availability to Accept Donations from your members, to set-up Premium Memberships, to receive Advertising Revenue from our Revenue Share Program, Ability to Mass Email to all Members, and more.

We’re excited to have you onboard, and we are almost there.

Regards,
Tapatalk Team

And the original email:
Dear Zetaboard Forum Admin and Moderators,

You might have received an email from us in past few weeks to participate in the Beta testing of the Zetaboard to Tapatalk conversion (If you haven’t, you’ll hear from us really soon). We received tons of great feedback and made many updates to address the issues raised during the Beta testing. Based on your feedback, we’re in the process of adding the following features to make sure your forum transition will be as smooth as possible:

Customizable forum templates with enhanced BBCode, including div (with class), span (with class), iframe, form elements.
Customizations via Javascript-like scripting feature to admin admins to further customize the user experience.
Custom pages:
Enhanced BBcode, embedded iframe or html in iframe.
Form handling for custom pages. Forms can be created to submit responses into a post.
View permissions for custom pages.
And Custom smileys!
These upcoming features will be part of the Tapatalk Premium Tier but If you had JS or CSS on your board prior to the conversion, they will be grandfathered into the converted site. Also - if you already have a custom domain with Zetaboard, your domain will also be grandfathered. Some of these features will be rolled out on your preview board in the next few days so you can play around with them before the production migration.

We plan to start the production migration for everyone within next few weeks. If you find any data or formatting issues on the preview board and would like to have a migration support specialist to look into the issues, please reply to this message.

Looking forward to welcoming you all to the Tapatalk Groups!

Regards,
Tapatalk Support Team

I think we have a few people who play and run games elsewhere that may have some ideas, but man this sucks.

I've been doing some looking at this issue for reasons of I'm hoping to run a game fairly soon.

Forumotion has a hard cap of 200 PMs in a user's box as far as I can tell which is clearly a dealbreaker. Too bad, it seemed promising.
I'm interested in NDIM but I feel like I'd probably have to make a skin myself and I wouldn't know where to start with that.
Same goes for Tapatalk, can't find much in the way of premade assistance there.
So I guess Proboards is leading by default but I haven't looked into it enough to find out what is horribly wrong with it yet.

If you move the pms from the inbox into the save box that cap becomes 400. I don’t know how much of an improvement that is but /shrug
I’ll play around with how it actually works to see if it prevents you from storing new pms or just deletes the oldest pm in general.

Okay tested it.
The oldest pm in the inbox will be deleted once the inbox reaches 200 pms.
However if you try to go over that cap of 200 pms in the outbox it’ll go over the cap? I tested it with a cap of 5 and thats what I found but I don’t know how that works with 200 pms. Though 200 pms shouldn’t be in the Outbox in general.

Deleting conversations from the start of the game seems like a feature, not a bug, but that's just me.

So it's like what pming on invisionfree was like, except you can't up the cap limit.

Honestly we should petition Zetaboards and see if we can stop this shit

it's a long shot but you never know
Show
Do I REALLY suck? That's up to you to decide.

Retiring from LSG's and Mish Mash, for the most part. If you want to contact me, I suggest going outside and enjoying what the world has to offer, instead.

Definitely DID suck, in the end...Probably.

I've been waist deep in zeta's support forum and other places and let me tell you if this could be changed it would be. everyone, including ZB's entire staff, loathes this immensely

anyway it looks like CSS editing for tapatalk is going to be horrible and barely exist so i'm giving up on that platform as utter garbage

Don't you have a single account registered to one email on Proboards and that's the account across all of them? or was that a different place? Also you're a saint for wading through this <3

Doesn't appear so. http://surviveit6.proboards.com/ I registered for that page and then tried to post elsewhere using it and it didn't work.

and if anyone is worried about their ability to make their page looks like someone vomited all over it, have no fear, proboards seems to keep that option alive.

Look, just because EtE had a hideous headache inducing bright board, doesn't mean you need to self-burn over it Zor. It's okay, we got you.

Some of these survivor pages look like they belong on geocities.
