Super-powered Rumble: Round 1

Super-Powered RUMBLE

Image
The fall of the great superteam
THE PROTECTORS OF FREEDOM
at the hands of
Uldarin the Conqueror
in 2035 was likely the darkest moment in Earth's history. For years, its good people were subjected to the tyrannical rule of this intergalactic monster. But then, in 2064, he disappeared. This mysterious event heralded a new age for super-powered heroes and villians.

The fight for a new dominant force begins. Which side will YOU fight on?

This is a game of Rumble. The rules for such are HERE.
A couple house rules:
1. Please PM actions to me as "Super-powered Rumble - Round X actions"
2. Rounds will be 48 hours long. 24 hours for giving in actions and then another 24 for post-round actions (Manifestation of the Cosmic Consciousness, Utlity belt, Batman Captions, Holy Exposition!). The default action if nothing is sent is to put all energy into defence. You can give yourself another one if you like. Unlike in the previous game this will be enforced. There are too many players to wait for everyone to send an action.
3. If anyone ends up with less than 40 energy at the start of the game they can sacrifice one of their powers before the game starts to gain Power Strength energy.

Send in your powers as you sign up. All powers will be subject to me editing for balance reasons (don't worry, I'll warn you if I find them over-powered :)). I hope to have about 3.5x powers at the bidding stage, where x is the number of players. There are sample powers in the link provided.
If we receive enough players, I will use Random.org to divide the players into 2-4 teams AFTER bidding.
Flavour posting and Hero/Villain profile are appreciated. <--to be done after bidding.

Heroes/Anti-Heroes/Villians
'*' denotes that Round 1 actions have been submitted.

Hey! It's great that you're getting into your character's background and all that, but keep in mind that you still don't know what powers you'll end up with, or who your teammates will be. I'll be sure to give everyone time to develop their character and team names, etc. before the rumble starts. :D
Also: remember that you can either create your own powers, or use those from the power database in the link I provided.

I could start with about 6-8, if we can't get any more. If we're really hard-pressed, than I'll start with whatever we get, so don't worry about this getting abandoned for lack of interest. 3 is... adequate.

Yep. Getting a sudden influx of interest. I'll sort through them all when I can get to them, likely sometime tonight. Until then, I'm just popping you on the list.

Okay. Sign-ups will be open for about 24 hours from now. I'm going through the backlog of powers I've received. If I PM you, I would like a response asap.
We should be bidding by Wednesday.

Powers are up. If you have questions about a power, bring it up in-thread. Feel free to discuss them.
Bidding is due in 48 hours. I will prod in 24.

Read the rules. You all have 100 energy. You bid with that. Only highest bidder has to pay for each power, but remember, the more you bid, the less energy you'll have left when the rumble begins.
the relevant bit wrote:Looking at all the chosen Powers, each Hero may bid an amount of Energy (from their initial 100) for each. These bids are made in secret, then revealed simultaneously - the highest bidder for each Power gets that Power and loses Energy equal to their bid for it (losing bidders get to keep their Energy). The highest bid for a Power is known as that Power's Power Strength, and is a general measure of its potency.

Bid carefully. While bidding 40 Energy may guarantee that you'll win that enviable Nuclear Device, it'll also mean that you'll start the game with 40 Energy already gone. And make sure you don't overbid on everything - while high bids all round will guarantee you some Powers, make sure you'll have a good amount of Energy left if you happen to end up paying for them all... A Hero with 50 Energy and four Powers isn't necessarily going to be able to beat a mortal with 100 Energy.

If bids are tied, the tied Heroes bid again. Heroes can bid zero for a Power if they don't really want it; if everyone bids zero on a particular Power, it is discarded. (Further to this, Heroes are permitted to discard any Powers they have won but do not wish to use; this is most relevant for 'environmental' powers which affect all players, which can be worth bidding on just to ensure they don't get used.)

When all bids are resolved and Powers have been assigned to Heroes, each Hero is free to make up a suitable name for themselves, and the Rumble begins...

Mine!
chenhsi didn't submit any powers, and he is not competing.
Anyways, we only had 19 submissions, out of a desired 24, so I added a few.

Okay, all bids have been received. Those that have been decided on are shown. Five powers wer not bid on, and have been discarded. There is one power that is being contested. The tied-highest bidders will be PM'd.
Rules for a contested power:
All parties for the highest bid will be allowed to rebid, once. If there is another tie, the power is discarded. Highest bidders may choose to bid 0. In the case that the highest bidders drop their bid by enough that another previous bid surpasses it that power will be given to the new highest bidder.
Rules for discarding powers:
After the contested power is dealt with, players will be able to discard any power that they have recieved. If they have 40 or less energy, they may discard one power and recieve it's power strength in refunded energy. All powers discarded after the first will have no refund value. There will be no bidding on discarded powers.

Well, ani: You only bid on three powers, and you didn't bid all that high. Bidding for powers takes quite a bit of strategy. And no, you cannot bid for discarded powers.

Okay. I've received the bids for the contested power. I'll be reorganizing the table to show hero statuses. This is bound to take a while, even though I've already started... *sigh*

The highest bid was from AshMC1984 at a staggering 50 energy.

Now is the time for all the last minute details. Name your hero/villain, and any sidekicks you possess. Maybe provide a picture, or a description.

Drench is currently at 35 energy, so he is able to discard a single power to receive it's power strength in energy (the amount he bid on it).
Anyone else may discard a power, but they won't receive anything in exchange.

No teams. There are, in fact, 7 players, not including sidekicks, and 7 is a prime number.

On behalf of Drench, who has missed the deadline:

Umm... well this was awkward. All Diedrich Nugenphiesun wanted was a great double-entendré for his nom de guerre in the upcoming battle, but in his haste he'd made an unforgivable, cripplingly embarrassing blunder: the Shocker was already taken! None of his friends in the chat rooms would let him live that one down. But then, he'd been able to fix his problems a lot easier now, thanks to his newly developed power gloves. In the end, he'd take back his pride as he and his ego outshone the second-class villain-of-the-week that preceded him. Thanks to his power gloves and his built-in AI HUD "Nostradamus", he had the utmost advantage in reaction time and agility. Hang on ladies, 'cause this ride's a
