I feel like "mentors" or a "strategy guide" for new players is defeating the purpose and frankly a bit insulting and patronizing. It would be enforcing a specific meta, which I don't think needs any assistance in enforcing and speaking as a new player is not something that would make it more fun for me.
I could see a bb14 like twist which would he similar working though

Then keep playing the game by your own standards and change the "meta". I know I played the game my own way and continually do so, each time I improve and the same can be said for any newbie that plays. I don't consider myself a vet... what 6 games now? Thats nothing yet I considered myself a contender to win NAH.

The meta isn't the problem, it's just lack of experience. It's anyones game, just learn it.

The jest is to PM tho, yeah. Activity is what eliminates most people early on and even mid game. If you lose activity for whatever reason, you have a good chance of being eliminated.

Beyond that, the strategy is yours to develop. I have my own way of interacting and socializing just as other players do. You will develop what works over time and what doesn't you won't ever use again lol.

So, speaking of mentors and the like.

Has anyone considered a Big Brother game. Like 12P, only players with <2 games are permitted, and four "veterans" handpicked as coaches who are assigned players, and win with their player if they win.

Thats where I was going with the bb14 idea.

It lets people keep some resemblance of the meta that is clearly important - but with new players gives an opportunity to have it break the script a little bit.
I'd say keep it anonymous, except let the coach know the real players identities. I'm not sure I'd want a 'coaches can play' twist though like that had in bb14.

I may be misreading it, but I think he means each coach is just handed 3 players to spectate and guide. It's probably not a very good comparison, but I'm picturing their roles similar to the coaches on The Voice.

"Don't suck" is great advice. thanks for the strategy guide.
I knew that 'sucking' was a bad strategy in hindsight, but at the time It felt like the right thing to do.

Also if serious I hate you.

I think I've only got past the first tribe swap by having people somehow be worse than me and/or acting like I know what I'm doing in challenges without completely demanding it happens my way.

although maybe it wasn't that way after first swap.

It was a joke. There's more to it than just PM'ing people.

My experiences with the early game and getting to the midgame have been pretty similar to what Cheery described above. Basically, show that I'm competent but not dangerous and take the easy boots until someone else screws up their game.

speaking of potential variants.
I think it might be interesting to see a social game that gives people on the outs an advantage, so you have to be careful who you allow to be targeted. I'd be down to mod something like this since I'm clearly not cut out to participate like I thought I was.

Spoiler:
A Multi-format Social Game

The VIP is whoever came closest to elimination last week, they get an advantage of some sort the next week.
VIP(or whatever name you want to use) Always chooses next challenge type

Big Brother
VIP Chooses 'Have nots' (can only private message each other) - Late Game
VIP Gets Power of Veto - Early Game
Non Eliminated Nominee becomes VIP.

Survivor:
VIP Chooses tribes
VIP's Tribe gets a food reward (small Advantage in challenge) - Late Game. If its past the point where there would be tribes, instead they choose 1/3 of remaining players to get the food reward.
VIP Gets an idol clue -Early Game
Person with most tribal council votes (thats not eliminated) becomes VIP

Apprentice
VIP Chooses opposing teams leader (then they submit lists to choose teams)
Board Room person not eliminated becomes VIP (If leader is eliminated, leader chooses VIP)

The 'Quest'
Ties benefit VIP when determining scores. VIP Votes to save last
Final 2 person not eliminated becomes VIP

Whodunnit
VIP Gets to choose location after everyone has chosen (everyone else must choose simultanously)
Person who had the worst quiz results (not eliminated) becomes VIP

King of the Nerds
VIP Chooses teams
VIP Gets to pick Challenge Category
Surviving person from 'Nerd-off' becomes VIP.

That looks like a horrible idea, what kind of loser would mod that with you?

Me and Drench talked about a Survivor game where every time you vote for the person who is voted out at that Tribal Council, the value of your vote is cut in half. So the longer a majority alliance exists, the less power any of its members actually have, unless they just keep splitting the vote, which makes things even more likely to be messed up!

Also am I just not understanding what a 'pagong' actually is? Because everyone was crying about a pagong backstage but like... that was 100% not the case. I assumed 'pagong' just meant grouping up along tribal lines and systematically eliminating everyone outside the tribal alliance. While the F4 were all Brode Island, I don't think it was due to a pagong mentality, and was more that the four of us made individual plays that just so happened to work out.

I think the hardest part of this game for me is that... everyone is allied. Everyone. Fucking everybody is allied with fucking everybody. I don't get it. How did Star/Dave know that the F2 deal they made was going to be honored anymore than the five million other alliances/deals? I can never tell. Hell, I thought mine/Star's F2 was strong as fuck then he voted me off, so clearly I know nothing.

That is because communication is pretty much done by PM and only by PM.

One of the mods (I don't know who was who) talked about having a mechanic where people could overhear parts of PMs in a future game.
I personally dont think that would do anything, and has to be taken to the next level. No communcation by Private Message at all.

A big brother type game, where people can only go to 'rooms', where anybody in the room at a given time could hear what was being said (or whispers but you'd know they were whispering to each other at least). Its tricky to figure out how to do with a forum ------ but I think the key and HUGE difference between my one game here and every real reality show ever is in "real" reality shows people sneaking off to chat is frowned upon and people get targetted for it. In forum survivor it was like oppositeland and you get targetted for not sneaking off enough (at least early)

Even then, everyone would just whisper to each other and not be targetted for it since this its a forum game and not a real one.

Ive considered an idea almost exactly like that before. It would be heeellllll to run. Would definitely require a larger and more dedicated team or some very tight restrictions on how moving to rooms works. All that masking and unmasking etc might also come with additional issues. Not an impossibility but it would definitely be more complicated.

Thing is, I didn't know that Star would. I hoped. I hoped that the fact we'd been working together all merge as well as after how shit went down in the Tommy TC that Star would honor that.

Spoiler though? I would have taken Doge. So I was true to it when it it got me to the end, but I've always wanted to win this so I would have taken Doge to raise my chances a bit.
