It was basically a themed mini normal, but -blank- was a fantastic mod and the player list gelled incredibly well for both alignments. It was a tough game to solve thanks to the worst and errantparabola's antics, but town's cohesion pulled through; enough players were just obvtown enough that scum were stuck in the poe, which prompted them to pull a spectacularly successful distancing/bussing play that catapulted ep straight to mylo. If the order of the nks had been a little different, or nauci had slightly different targets at night, i think this was a scum win quite a lot of the time, but town just kinda *clicked* together, enabling us to solve it in the end. It was a really close game, and that made it that much more fun and exciting.

Obviously I'm a little biased because I was in it, and this game wasn't as complex or intricately-designed as some of the other games mentioned on this page, but when I look back at all the games I played or spectated this year, I think this was hands-down my favorite thanks to the amazing player list and awesome modding.

It was just a great, fun game, and if someone walked up to me and asked me what my favorite game was this year, I would point to this one: non-toxic, great pl, mechanics weren't overly complicated, and competitive, great play from both alignments

The winner of Game Of The Year for 2018 was:

Spoiler: winner
American Presidents Mafia

Thank you everyone I have some more specific thank yous to send out and a few nice things some of the players said that I'd like to share but for now, thank you all; more to come when I am at a computer and not on my phone.
I've only made one good post, and don't you dare accuse me of doing it again.

Let's start with me being my normal jerky self. This should be "few".

Anyway, thanks everyone for all the support, I actually like prepared for this because I have a very set theory when I mod games. I just don't want to get in the way. So much respect goes to all the players on this, and I was extremely happy that everyone liked this game so much. Big thanks as well to HeWhoSwims, who was my co-mod, and insanity018 and lycanfire for the review.

And I'll put what people had to say behind this fancy spoiler button.
Spoiler:
Irrelephant11 wrote:American Presidents was my favorite game of the year because it was lighthearted, scum played their guts out, and town had some solid night actions and townblocking that made a scum win just barely unreachable. The playerlist had a wide variety of play styles (shout out to Keyser who I scumread from D1 until he was conftown), the roles had some fun interactions (shoutout to Nauci for crumbing her role in giant wallposts nobody actually read), and scum had some solid fake claims (shoutout to TW and EP for one of the most impressive distancing plays I’ve seen) - I learned so much from this game. When everyone is immediately calling for a rematch post-game, you know something went right.
Errantparabola wrote:American Presidents had one of the most engaged and smart towns I have ever had the pleasure of playing against and one of the most supportive and fantastic scumteams I have ever had the pleasure of playing with. I would like to thank brassherald for his moderation of this exceptional game.
Gamma Emerald wrote:As a person who spent more time as a spectator than a participant I want to say the game went through a couple hilly patches but the fact it made such a positive impact despite that probably speaks to the true quality of the game.
Shoshin wrote:Nice! This game was one of my favorite all time games. The player list was amazing. The setup was simple, focused on scumhunting, yet gave enough room for scum to pull off a pretty cool fake claim. It was a true joy to play and my only complaint was dying N2 and not being able to play the whole game. I think both BV and EP deserve an award for their play, which was phenomenal from both town and scum perspective. The game was just competitive all around. Everyone was amazing, no joke, best overall player list I've played with. Not sure what else to say. I think it was just one of those rare experiences where everyone in the game really liked playing with each other, town and scum alike.
and my favorite
skitter30 wrote:uh i don't know what to say beyond what i wrote in the nom, but i'll think about it?

Anyway, since I promised I'd also do this. It's me, I'm the Game of the Year!

Brass you're a really cool person
I just want to let you know that

tbh a lot of my motivation for wanting to come back into modding came from making that poll and realizing that while 2018 is kinda important since we got so many new faces, and the type of new faces that are probably going to be what the generation after them looks up to. But aside from that, the year didn't stand out in terms of mafia.
But thats okay because I'm back, and while you deserved your W more then the other noms by far, I am going to help make sure that ywall have fun this year with mafia :]

I was just surprised to be nominated in this category. I'm legitimately going to try to go out of the box a bit more, but still run games like this one at the same time.

Also, I think you are cool, too.

This is my favourite game I've ever been in.
I was the d3 lynch (as scum, my less preferred alignment by a mile at the time).

It was an absolute blast, some memorable moments like when Nauci
activated
(the birth of our friendship for sure. and I'd like to say rivalry but I don't think I can stand on such a high pedestal ) and neap cleared like every single VT in the game, skitter30's unstoppable logic, Mathdino's lit rapping self-PR, and last but absolutely not least, errantparabola's sensational fakeclaim/distancing gambit against me and the way she cashed in her towncred to slip from a losing position into MyLo.

realising that I was going down and having the opportunity to set her up to slide into the towncore was such a beautiful experience.

I'm getting nostalgic tho because we're talking about brass as a mod and the game design as well. It was just damn clever. It was a little on the role heavy side but only pleasantly so. The flavour was considered, and carefully constructed around roles in a way that very few mods are really capable of selling. (coming from someone who knows nothing about merry cans or presidance) brass was always attentive and fun as a mod, but still straddled the line between that and care. his VCs were also regular enough while using a surprisingly detailed template.

this was absolutely just one of those once a year or less games. the modding was good, the design was good, the player list was good, and I'm really excited and proud that it's won this scummy. thoroughly deserved. :)
who's scum? i haven't read up yet but like, it's me

If he was around further into the year he likely would have, his ambition with e.g. Noir was brilliant as well just like real life is a whole thing

but yeah lol that's the reason I replaced into APM <3
