This year's paragon winner has been one of the most impactful players in the mafia community since they showed up here.

It was actually surprisingly not long ago that they were a newbie playing their first game on MS. They had a solid performance where they caught one scum but had some wrong reads early. They even started off with a reputation for tunneling people wrongly. But they improved rapidly and started winning games at a staggering rate. Their overall winrate as town, including just a short period in 2017 where they were still learning the ropes, is 70%ish. Over this year in 2018, it has been 80%. And in case it needs spelling out, it is incredibly difficult as an individual to have enough of a positive impact in games to have an 80% winrate as town.

She essentially has no flaws as a town player. Her reads are fantastic. She is great at preventing lynches on lynchbait and discouraging town on town fights. She is amazing at spewing herself town, and contrary to popular belief this has not come at a cost to her scum game: she has a great 7/3 record as scum. It's hard to even talk about her town game because she really has no weaknesses to contrast with her strengths. At best, the criticism that could be made of her is that when she's busy in real life and doesn't have time to commit as much energy to thread, she doesn't win as much.

She is also a universally beloved player, one whose presence fills games as a mod and a player and who was voted one of the 12 best players of 2018. The judging was 100% unanimous that this player deserved the award. All of this despite the fact that she has been around on mafiascum for less than two years.

I've never thought of myself as a paragon. I still don't really "feel" like one. I think there's so much more I have left to learn and to experiment with. With that in mind, I'm going to take the banner not as some prize that I've already achieved, but as something I should continue to aspire to; a constant reminder to try my hardest and never forget that there's always room for improvement.

Thanks to everyone who I've played with and whose games I've played in. It's because of all of your wonderful personalities that this game has become my full-time obsession. I've thought since the beginning and have always maintained that actually playing Mafia to me is like getting to interact with characters with a book. It's still a little surreal.

This means a lot to me.
