Voting and Deadline Rules:


1. Votes should be made using bolded text (

) in an obvious manner or preferably with a vote tag (VOTE: Neko Tail). You can also vote for no lynch unless a preventing mechanic is in place.
1.1. Unvotes when changing votes are not necessary.
1.2. Votes made inside quoted or spoiler-ed text will not be counted.
2. A lynch (or no lynch) occurs when a simple majority is reached. If deadline is reached without a simple majority, the game ends in a scum win.
3. The game will be halted (completely paused) when we are searching for a replacement.
4. All actions must be submitted by a PM to the mod account.
5. If there is any kind of game mechanic that prevents a player from voting, said player won't be included in the vote counts.

Activity Rules:


1. A prod PM will be issued if any player does not post in one of the main game threads for
24
hours.
1.1. Prods will be announced in-thread.
1.2. You have 24 hours to pick up your prod either by posting or by PM. After this time, I may begin seeking a replacement.
2. I may seek replacement immediately without waiting 24 hours if a player receives two or more than two prods.

Welcome, all.
You probably know that we need you. That, what you will learn today and the days that have yet to come, is illegal. We will train you to be criminals; thieves, even.
Of course, not the small ones, stealing televisions and robbing people, no. We steal way more valuable goods: Ideas.

We will learn you how to manipulate dreams. How to give others the impression that, whatever is happening, is real, although it is just a dream you created. This, my friends, is in no way easy. There are many dangers that come with this: people can protect their subconsciousness and kill you while in there. People can realise that it isn't real if you make only the slightest mistake, and beat you at your own game. Or, you fool yourself, thinking that your dream is a reality. A better reality.

We will help you on this long road towards being a good dreamer. Each of you will soon be assigned a role, one that we believe fits your capabilites best. Succeed in your training, and we welcome you to the team. Failures... they often result in death, anyway.
Just don't get your hopes up, there is a catch. A big one.

We hired some other thieves. They're pretty good at what they do, even. And they are standing next to you.
Not all of you are recruits. Lately, there has been a tendency that recruits slack off, resulting in more deaths and caught criminals than ever. We can NOT allow that.
That's why they are here; they will sabotage you.
While we take you through dreams to teach you the skills you need, you have to attempt to kill them. Get them all dead or trapped in Limbo, and everyone still alive will be welcomed as recruits immediately.
Fail to do so, and they will be rewarded a large sum, while your bodies lie to rot somewhere. We won't come to save you.

You may talk to each other for a while. We will observe you. When we think we are ready, we'll assign roles and start your training.

Dreaming

Spoiler:
  • The game can have multiple threads; before posting, check the opening post to see if you're allowed post.

  • The game is
    nightless
    . The game starts with a
    two week deadline
    , but can be
    slowed down
    with mechanics explained below. If deadline passes, Town loses. Deadline is not reset when a lynch occurs.
  • Before the actual start of the game, there will be 7 days reserved for mechanics discussion and the start of scum-hunting. You cannot start a
    Dream
    in this phase, nor can you lynch any player.
    Alignments will be distributed at the start of this phase, your role will follow after.
    At any time during this phase, if the majority of the players vote to skip the rest of the pregame, you will receive your roles and the actual game will begin.
  • A list of all the possible afflictions are presented after this post. The afflictions are what determine your roles and abilities. They will be distributed
    totally randomly
    when pregame phase ends.
  • The game is confirmed single-ball (There is only one scum faction in this game) and 9 town v 3 mafia
  • All the game threads - even the main one - are Private. Only the pregame phase will be in a public topic.
  • During the game, players in each thread can either vote to Lynch, or vote to
    Dream
    . (
    Dream: [Player Name]
    to
    Dream
    and VOTE: [Player Name] or
    Vote: [Player Name]
    to Lynch.
  • By lynching a player out of dream threads (In main thread or Limbo), players will flip and move to dead thread.
  • By lynching a player in a dream thread they will move to a secondary dead thread called
    Limbo
    . Players in
    Limbo
    are considered dead for win condition purposes, but won't flip until they move to the permanent dead thread.
  • Mafia has a private Factional Chat that they can use why their alive (if their not in the
    Limbo
    or dead thread).
  • You can only Lynch once in the game's main thread. If there are 4 or less players still alive, this restriction is no longer in effect (and thus, you are allowed to lynch freely in the main thread).
  • If 5 or more players are in a thread, by achieving a majority to dream, all the players on that wagon, as well as the player who was voted for, will move into that players
    Subconsciousness
    (a new dream thread). [There may be mechanic(s) that can mess with this]
  • Players can vote one player to lynch and as many as players they like to
    Dream
    . Note that only the first initiated
    Dream
    will go through.
  • Once a
    Dream
    or a lynch triggers all the votes in that thread (for
    Dream
    or lynch) will be reset.
  • When an ongoing dream was started in a certain thread, no lynch can happen in that thread until the dream collapses.
  • When there are 2 or less players in a thread, no lynch can happen in that thread. To
    dream
    again, they can't use the normal dreaming mechanism.
  • When there are 2 or less players in a dream thread, and there are no dreams that were initiated in this thread, a
    kick
    automatically occurs, making them drop 1 dream level. Normal
    perception
    costs apply.


Dreaming Deeper

Spoiler:
  • Players are allowed to
    Dream
    inside a
    Dream
    .
  • When going into a deeper dream, the remaining time until deadline is multiplied by 1.5.
  • Deadline is universal and runs at the speed of the deepest dream. If the dreaming party at the deepest level comes back from that dream, the deadline will be divided by 1.5 for each dream level difference.
  • Some roles will be more effective when they are in a deeper dream.
  • By reaching the fourth layer of dreaming, players will find direct connection to
    Limbo
    and will be able to bring back one of the trapped players.
  • Players in upper threads (the ones that dreams are initiated from) can see the threads of all dreams that started in that thread, as well as their respective sub dreams (not the
    Limbo
    -
    Limbo
    is not a dream thread).
  • Players in dreams can't see the upper threads.


Death and Limbo

Spoiler:
  • Upon death you will either move to dead thread (permanent death) and will flip, or you will be moved to
    Limbo
    , which is the deepest state of dreaming.
  • Players in
    Limbo
    are considered dead for wincondition purposes.
  • If someone moves to
    Limbo
    , they won't flip.
  • Players in
    Limbo
    might escape using game mechanic(s).
  • Players in
    Limbo
    can vote to lynch as well. The lynched players from limbo will move to dead thread and will flip publicly.
  • Players in fourth level of dream can see the
    Limbo
    thread and interact with people there and they can bring back one player from
    Limbo
    each, upon moving to a higher dream.


The Kick!

Spoiler:
  • Any player in a thread in which a dream was started (and still exists) can initiate a
    kick
    on that dream and all its sub dreams.
  • Players in all sub dreams will be notified about the
    kick
    when its initiated.
  • To escape from a dream after a
    kick
    has been initiated, players will lose
    perception
    .
  • All the players start the game with 100%
    perception
    , unless stated otherwise in their role pm.
  • A player earns 5%
    perception
    by being on the lynch wagon in a
    dream
    . (it can't exceed 100%).
  • Players can not leave dreams by themselves; a kick is required. There may or may not be mechanics that change this.
  • Once a player flips and moves to the dead thread, every living player will earn 5%
    perception
    . If the flipped player was scum, all living players will earn an additional 10%
    perception
    . (it can't exceed 100%).
  • To get out one level dream, players will lose 20%
    perception
    . To get out of 2 level dreams in one try they will lose 50%
    perception
    . To get out of 3 level dreams in one try they will lose 70%
    perception
    and by trying to get out of 4 level dreams in one try they will lose 100% of their
    perception
    .
  • If a player doesn't have sufficient

i have questions about rule wording. they'll have to be dealt with later, when it's easier to quote. but for now:

could exactly who is allowed to initiate a kick and in which level of dreaming be clarified?
additionally: am i correct in thinking that creating a dream thread involves a majority dream lynch on a player (provided there are at least five players in the thread)? the resulting dream is the lynched player's subconscious, and the players on the wagon join them in their dream?

Everyone in a thread in which a dream was initiated can initiate a kick on all dreams started in that thread, as well as all those dreams' subdreams.
You are correct about dreaming.

A kick will affect all dreams that started in the thread the kick was initiated in, as well as all dreams that started in those dreams and so on.

Players in Limbo are considered dead for wincondition purposes.

i actually understand all of the mechanics. wonderful. it's going to be hard to sort people if there's confusion about this.
but, to be on the safe side:
players in limbo only count as dead for the purposes of win conditions, correct? so they would still get the perception boosts on a player being flipped.
