and yeah, consider adding an aliveline to your game because of this game (I'd suggest a 24 hour aliveline where hammers straight up don't happen for a normal time game - that is Days (not Twilights, Days) can't be less than 24 hours long)

I think one thing you can do as a mod is to add a rule that allows you to tamper with the player's alignments if the game is wildly unbalanced.

I did that with the 3 town 2 co-aligned groupscum minimum in TL's GIM

I feel it wasn't popular so I changed it into a reroll - but rerolls are a lot more hard on mods than mod "cheats"

I agree rerolls are very time consuming, but I also agree with the general consensus that arbitrarily changing alignments isn't great either. The problem with the latter is that even though there are a lot of roles in GIM, many of the more unique ones are limited in alignment spread, and that becomes an important piece of information.

I think the first thing I would do would let everyone repick from the current roll while telling them that there were too few town or too few scum. If that still generates an invalid setup, then you do an actual reroll.

People troll around and don't post when votes don't carry weight. I speak from experience of having used to do phases where hammers don't count (even though I still counted votes).

instead of picking from the 3, you could first do it line by line

like if everyone's first picks don't add up to enough town, size up everyone's second, then everyone's third, before picking yourself as the failsafe, e.g.

1. town town mafia mafia werewolf werewolf
2. town town town town mafia mafia
3. alien werewolf town town town town

would give everyone in the game their 2nd pick

that way no time is wasted on pming, but there's also less chance of people trying to think of what you would do

What if you straight up don't count votes until the aliveline hits? This'd be similar to Town of Salem's Discussion phase before votes are allowed.

I’m generally not a fan of forcing “correct” play with mod influence.

Do I think page 1 lolhammers 20 minutes into the game are dumb? Yes. Do I think the players should be able to make that choice? Yes.

I will be tightening the setup restriction to more town than groupscum and serial killers in my next game - I feel that will always be considered Mafia even if it's literally just 3 town 2 mafia and a large number of third parties - and the low Town ratio is part of the reason the game was quickhammer-heavy.
