flavor was super cool the whole game, ty for the modding prism!

i had a ton of fun this game altho it was also v stressful at times and there were multiple points where i just wanted to quit. i came in really wanting to win and fight as hard as i could to do so tho and im glad we barely pulled it out in the end. scumteam was excellent and everyone complemented each other nicely, we were able to each fill different positions in the game due to playstyle and it was super satisfying when it was working. all of you are great!!

it was also just a fun plist to play with in general, and also i think it was super cool that we had no replacements, makes the game feel pure and clean

and kovu... im sorry!! the hood was so much fun tho and you constantly kept me on my toes and made the game super challenging, it def was not just a clean pocket at all, you played well and i was sure we lost as soon as gamma flipped. i hope u don't feel too betrayed <3

GG all and INFINITE PROPS TO FIRE for pulling that one out at the end, I couldn't even keep up with the posting you+Fey were doing at the start of Day 6 and you were presumably posting in the neighborhood to Kovu throughout that too.

This setup felt brutal to get through, I had used my 2 roleblock shots on gorilla n2 (while we killed Mala) and n3 (while we killed Val), and I felt that we HAD to get one of gorilla/Val voted out Day 4 to have a chance and that gorilla dying while blocking Val would just have people ultimately leave Val alive for one night to see if they die and we would have been forced to do that. I could have played townier than I did day 4 but wanted to give as much cover/credit to people pushing for a gorilla/gamma scumteam as possible to avoid the 50/50 shot of gorilla blocking conf. town correctly that night if he wasn't elim'd. With the number of elims town had it from Day 3 onwards it really came down to "can we get town to elim/invictus almost every non-conf. town except Kovu and our forced nightkills" except for setting up the potential perspective of a Fey/fire scumteam hoping that Fey would get invictus'd before me.
I'll prob post other setup thoughts later but again so many props to fire in particular, but also to Dunn for living what seemed like forever despite me bussing him the whole time and helping push through the gorilla wagon, and to marci for just bein' herself and getting townread day 1 and making a ton of other townies look bad for how they acted around her afterwards.

sorry LLD you're scary and I wanted you gone at a time when you probably weren't shooting scum in the face with invictus as opposed to after you got your bearings - my thoughts were gorilla or you were the best kills and gorilla was more likely to be targeting scum with Invictus. Holler at me next time you play a marathon game though and you have the absolute right to shoot me in a vengeful game or something like that (this is probably the one long mafia game I play this year tbh)

Yeah I still think this setup was a townsided piece of shit lmao, sorry to the scumteam for that.

Here's the summary of my "If I could go back in time" mechanical thoughts and why I made a lot of the design choices I did for those who don't want to hunt through the dead PT:

If I were to redo this I have a bunch of ideas but I'd probably do something like:

-Get rid of FN
-Replace 1-Shot Cop with a Tracker
-Parity check before Invictus

What makes it even worse is that I normally really like to err on the scumsided and give minimal PRs close to Mountainous. Instead I tried to design something closer to balanced and designed a completely townsided piece of shit lmao

I decided to give town a lot of power for 3 reasons:

1) The first w/ only a tracker and bodyguards was a complete scum steamroll
2) I actually wanted more power all around

to serve as a contrast

to the mountainous feel of the original, even without balance concerns
3) My reviewers were more in favor of town-power, so I added more. I was rushing a bit and didn't fully explain to them how much ground town gained on scumflips. That is 100% on me, not them. I also knew how strong clears were but thought that a random nightkill/death would offset it.

fferyllt also especially deserves a lot of credit for making this even slightly playable, I went back to the drawing board for town power after suggestions but was going to let it stand there. She suggested giving scum more power which is what got them an RB.

I intentionally went against my normal philosophy with this one and that's on me.

I didn't cover why I chose the actual parity check I did, which was just because sweet, sweet vengeance and suspense. I realized there were issues with it pregame but thought it too late to change. I think there are multiple mechanical changes I could have made beyond the fix suggested above, but that was my best guess for something more even without gutting the whole thing.

Above all else, this game was intended to be my love letter to the site. I remember playing on this site when I was 14 and 15, constantly blown away by the cool themes, the creative moderators, and how interesting the games could be compared to regular old chat mafia. It's my love letter to 2011, to the original Invictus and all the games Vi designed, and to the players I played with over a decade ago. It's my way of saying thanks for everything after a decade of being a freeloader who never ran games of their own.

Thanks again for playing y'all, and I hope someone runs another one in 2033.

Congratulations as well to Lukewarm, the only winner of a long series of avatar bets I had going in the dead PT! With a guess of 110, he came within 2 pages of guessing the final length of Kovu and fireisredsir's personal PT, which was 112! (...Judged by 25 posts per page, ofc)

He will get to decide what avatar I use for 72 hours.

also, i may have been the last one alive, but in the end really it was the rest of the team who won the game. tracking through kovu's progression on the final day, the point that ended up convincing her was that she found the flipped scum's posts towards me as looking not partnered. so major credit to them, their posts towards me were def stronger than my posts towards them. ik dunn had planned looking like partners with fey and that helped a ton, and gamma was good at talking to me as if i wasn't a partner as well

ended up being pretty lucky that it worked out that way, since i was never planning to be the last one alive

kinda sad i got shot in the face n1 here. was probably? for the best because my reads, other than marci, majorly sucked, and this was ongoing at the same time as the championship AND a lot of important exams.

Tarhalindur was a member and frequent mod of games here. I'm not sure of the exact origin, but it was a hallmark for Vi games to have a role titled "Tarhalindur, ____ Over Mafia", usually mafia or 3p but occasionally town, with creatively wacky powers. I'm not exactly sure of the full story, but the first appearance I could find was as a fake flip in Mafia Jailbreak featuring our very own reviewer Isis. You can find a list of those games and roles here.

Tarhalindur was actually a player in the original Mafia Invictus, while another player entirely, Ban, was the Tarhalindur role.

Happy with my D2 reads, unhappy with how I played basically everything else — especially wish I’d stuck to my guns on meuh and had insisted harder on fey being town but the gorilla flip made me doubt myself a lot and I was really unsure even on Fey by the end
