It's not necessarily for you, though some of it is. Each mafia site is significantly different from every other site. The way we play is not the same as the way other sites play. This isn't to say one way is better or worse, but rather that some people enjoy styles of play and not others. We've definitely had people come here who were used to a frantic pace of play (like a day in an hour) that is just not possible with our player base, and they were completely and utterly bored with how we play mafia here. We want you to be sure that you're going to enjoy yourself before you get involved in some of the sites more intricate games.

But mostly its to protect ourselves. All that stuff I just said? It means that players who have not completed a game on site are more likely to flake out of games than any other group of players. They're not invested in the site, and there is no guarantee that they will like how we play mafia. That means that if you decide, 2 weeks in, that you don't like us, you've created a big burden for the mod of the game you're in (and the site as a whole if you're in many games. We've had people flake out of 6-8 games at once.) Secondly, while you might be confident of your skill level, everyone else has to just take that on faith. We'd much rather you start in a newbie (or, if you absolutely will not do that, a mini normal) before you jump into the middle of a complex large theme, so that we know that you at least have some idea of what you're doing.

Like I said, not necessary, just strongly encouraged. This game is actually full anyway, though. I think.
