Formatted like RC's:

5) Meta is the great land of confirmation bias. Anyone whose reason for reading someone is "meta" has either caught a bad player, or is no better than rolling dice.
4) Working together is necessary for town success. If you plan to play this game solo, you're dead weight. You'll also probably survive to LyLo or get mislynched. There's a pattern there.
3) It's better to be believed than to be right.
2) Cases are like debating. Truth is irrelevant to the winner of a debate - either formal or informal. In fact focusing on the truth might be a huge drawback. It's the same way for cases.
1) Not getting lynched is one of the most important mafia skills you can cultivate. Regardless of alignment, being hard to lynch is a skill that is hugely beneficial to you and your team.

As I said, it's great for confirming what you already believe - whether or not that confirmation is accurate, you'll find evidence you're correct. If you think they're scum and you're looking at their town game, they behaved differently in some way in that different game. If you're looking at a scum game, the same person played similarly in both that previous scum game and the game you're already in.

If you mean it's great supporting evidence in a case because people believe it, well, see cases.
is (1) controversial?
Given how many people seem to make no effort to avoid it then get actively offended post-game when they were lynched, well, apparently. There have been some fucking awful lynches over the years, but by the same token if someone is lurking, completely disconnected from the game, spouting random garbage, won't talk to anyone, and frequently votes popular wagons with little comment when they do come back from lurking... well, who was responsible for that lynch again? Or people who get three votes, roll over, show their belly, and go "lynch me, I clearly must deserve it"
