Something that works well: have all townies be part of seperate Mason groups. They're still all working together, but they can work with a group.

I played a Warcraft-themed game like this, and it worked very well.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How about this setup:
You have a huge pile of townies, a Mafia, and two competing cults. Only townies can be converted, though. In theory it would be almost impossible for the townies to win, so cult leaders would send in a pool of folks they wanted, and the top townie would be converted; that way, almost everyone would be converted.
.
Then...everyone would just claim day 1, claim who all their mason partners are, and the town would win.
Ah, that's why you give the scum a majorly important power. In that particular game, the smallest group's survival was necessary for a town win. Therefore, if everyone revealed, the mafia would know the one group to kill.
I'm not sure how to go about balancing this, as it's kind of complex; does anyone have any suggestions?
Minesweeper Mafia (more of a mutation, but meh)
10 players are arranged in a 4x4 grid. The location where they begin is random.
Execution is the same as usual.
Every night, the players can move one space, in any direction. If they move past the grid's edge, they will show up on the other side.
Mines automatically explode after two nights.
Movement precedss all other action.
2 Mafia members. They may place a motion-sensitive mine on any of the spaces adjacent to either of them. If they step over the space where the mine is planted, they will defuse it; if anyone else steps over the space, it will explode, killing them.
1 Miner. He chooses a space next to him every night; if there is a mine there, he will defuse it.
1 Minesweeper. Every night, he checks the 8 spaces immediately surrounding him and gets the number of mines surrounding him.
6 Townies.
Edit: Changed spelling error.
The daemon idea (I refuse to use silly useless ae symbols) is really nifty, and would rock.
HOLD IT!
Right there, witness, you said Phoenix Wright mafia. Do you mean the mafia in the Phoenix Wright universe with that TV exec and the creepy girl, or the
game
mafia?
Picnic at Hanging Rock Mafia
Day will end in 20 weeks, not before.
The idea is that no-one will sit through the whole thing.
Alternatively:
Clark and Dawe mafia
Everyone is a character being played by clark and dawe in one of their skits.
Rockin' Out Mafia
3 scum
9 town
Each day ends after exactly 4 real-life weeks, no more, no less. Plurality decides lynches. If 2 are tied, the first one to reach that point first is lynched.
I had actually wanted to run exactly this at some point.
I'd be interested. Though of course the exact plot of the game needs to diverge more and more as the series continues :D
Has anyone ever done a Battle Royale mafia? Don't know if you could call it a true "mafia" game unless you included soldiers and the principle as a mafia that didn't kill. But it would probably be a bloodbath >.<
Does anyone know if it's been run before? Or would be even mildly interested in the scenario?
