Question:

What's the deal with the 'titles'?

I just noticed that I'm now a 'Goon' I used to be a 'townsperson'.

I am deducing that there is a correaltion between no. of posts and title, (ie. the more posts you have made the more scummy...) If this is the case then what are the qualification points?

Townsperson is 0-41, Goon's like 42-99, Mafia Scum is 100+. Titles other than those three are allocated in the title thread over in Site Ideas.

Quick question (and maybe this isn't the correct place, but I don't want to start yet another thread).

How do people feel about 'IC' mafia? For example, if Werebear were to always be distracting and silly in every game, regardless of role (unless explicitly prohibited). It's just a half step beyond "This is just the way I am", and if it was consistent, it wouldn't be very useful as a 'tell'.

The reason I ask is I chose my screen name based on a character who speaks in very broken, abbreviated sentences (see my signature for a word-for-word example). Would this be a) annoying, b) distracting, or c) not have any adverse effect, if it were done for every in-character post?

It wouldn't bother me too much as long as the sentences are sentences, and the spelling and grammar are correct...

Trust me - If it gets annoying, you will be informed...

Okay, I was wondering. How would someone take some sort of media, a book, movie, etc, and turn it into a mafia themed game without making the rolls really obvious. What I'm trying to avoid is a direct conversion over and forcing the book etc into a mold (x mafia, cop, doc, vig, y townies, etc) and also not have rollclaims be that damning or helpful. Example: if someone's roll in the book/movie is a villan the hero, how would you make it such that being the villan wouldn't necessairly make you a mafia, and hero a townie/doc etc? Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this.

Step One - have a look at what everybody else has done....

You don't have to have good characters being townies and vice versa, (cf Simpsons Mafia). Creation of the game roles etc is totally up to you.

I'm running my first game now, and I'm holding on to my other game in hopes that I will get a chance to run it later, so I can't tell you what I have done, but I'm sure others will...

You might like to check out Princess Bride mafia as well, there was a role in PB that was an evil char in the movie, that was protown in the game...

Mr. Flay, in character mafia has been rarely explored on this site. However, some people with really poor grammar or who willfully forego punctuation have been adversely affected, I think. The level of English you display in your posts is a (possibly inaccurate) depiction of your intelligence. You will find it difficult to convince anyone of anything if you can't make your ideas clear.

If you get annoying, you'll know. People have started bandwagons based on moving avatars. We call them the avatar facists. I'm sure that there are IC facists.

FrogGurl, the best way to make a conversion from theme to game without sticking to the mold is to only use the theme for inspiration. What I mean is fairly simple: take a couple characters, a couple situations, but ignore plot lines (which you can't control in Mafia anyway) and twist things up a bit.

For example: A mod decides to take a crack at Snow White Mafia. How easy would it be to make the dwarves the 7 townies, the witch evil, give her a couple henchmen, etc. Bonus points for killing Snow White. Instead, make one of the dwarves evil, make Snow White a dwarf killing vigilante, and the prince isn't a doctor, he's the witch finding cop. Heck, maybe the Witch starts alone, and can recruit the dwarves.

Be adventuresome. If you recreated the book, everyone would know how it ended.

Sounds good, thanks. That also wouldn't require complete memorization of the book/movie, either. :)

I have an idea for a mini with some roles I made(Im sure they simliar to ones that have been used - but I came up with them independantly) that I want to try and use. I am new to the board however, so do I have to wait some time to mod? Also since I havn't modded Im not sure if its balanced right - does anyone want to give it a look?

Thanks,

All these questions are addressed somewhere on this board, so I can help point you in right direction. To mod, you need to have completed a game as I understand it. Then you go to the minigame queue, and put your name on the list, choosing themed or regular games. Go check out the minigame queue's front page for more info.

As for checking out the setup, there's a thread in here somewhere where you can ask for that exact thing, but I think you've found it already.

Thanks Cuban , in between posting the question I found the thread addressing the mod issue. I have a completed game - but I really would like someone to check it over. I did find the set up review thread, but I didnt get any responses so I wondered if it was the wrong place.

IT's the right place, just have to wait for someone to notice and want to help. I would, but my internet access is always inconsistent, so I try to avoid commitments, especially ones with low turnarounds.
