ITT, elitism over people most people don't care about?
What? Elitism? I'm talking about recognizing people that have devoted a lot of their time over a long period of time to making this free website great. If that's elitist, then fuck you for being so elite.

If you want to reward funny, then there is the Funniest Poster award. I couldn't even begin to justify a "Funniest Post" category.
Look, the problem was that the "Funniest Role Claim" was a lame category with few nominations and it doesn't really reward good play. Since "Best Role Claim" was similarity a limited category, I suggested combining the two into an overall "Best Moment" category that would include all sorts of good plays, especially ones that are particularly entertaining.
If your argument against that is "Oh no! Funny posts won't get awards!" then piss off.

Body of Work award.
And...?
Rewarding a funny
post
is different than rewarding a funny
person.
Everyone can be funny, but that doesn't mean we're all stand up comedians.
Okay, now your job is to explain to me why we should be rewarding stand-up comedy style single post in a mafia game.
Because that person would never get nominated for Funniest Poster ever, but said something so funny/out of context/etc that it's worth a nomination and/or scummy?

Hm. I'm actually coming around to KK's award. Sort of a 'most memorable moment thing' and judge it based on that? It's really no more subjective than something like 'Most Enjoyable' which is one of the most popular categories.

I really don't see what's wrong with rewarding a funny post, KK. It's not like people are going to start turning games into platforms for stand-up comedy just so they can win this scummy; I just don't think the two categories should be judged together.
I see the other side, truly I do. I just don't think that on a site of this size that we'll have an issue finding nominees for either category.

If we're rewarding funny posts with no game value, shouldn't we just call the award "Best Fluff Post"?
I'm not trying to be too snarky, it's just that comedy is already rewarded in the Funniest Poster category, which is wisely a Body of Work award. A memorable moment nominee should have great comedy to put it over the top, but at it's core it should be rewarding brilliant play.
In post 95, SleepyKrew wrote:While I still think they should be two separate awards, I guess I could live with a "Most Memorable Play/Sequence". But not a "Best Play/Sequence".
I sincerely appreciate the (mostly) mature way this discussion was de-escalated and "resolved". Bravo to you gentlemen.
I like the idea of a funniest/best moment category, but I can also see the appeal of a funniest/best post, especially to people that aren't that funny usually but really try to go out of their way to be every once in a while, and if it's really that funny, it's probably deserving of being awarded like that. As far as I am aware, Hoopla's not that funny or irreverent a lot of the time, but if she would have made a play like that (fucking awesome, btw) and it would have gone un-awarded, that would have been a crying shame.
I mostly agree with the consensus that has been reached however.

I do like this.
I also like handing out a Golden Fedora every year.

Ehhhhno. I feel like doing this would just lessen the "value" of getting a Golden Fedora. If someone does something to earn it, then yes, but let's not just give something out for the sake of giving it out.
Ski mask? Check! Sawed off? Check! Guilty conscience, fear of death? Check! Check! Check!

I agree with the bus.
Everything you say and do matters. People will respond in ways you may never see. May those responses be what you intend.
