Mafia with editting

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Mon Dec 01, 2003 3:29 pm

I am currently trying to figure out how to make a mafia game in which all players may edit could somehow work. I realize that the biggest problem would be the vote count and it would be an absolute night mare if you could edit your votes, but I am still somehow trying to work the whole thing out. Any ideas? Any suggestions?

What would be the
purpose
of being able to edit?

Add a twist to the game I guess, like building your alibi backwards, but you should make a rule that players are not allowed to keep backups of the thread, because that would ruin the idea.

The purpose of being able to edit? it all started out as a thought experiment. I was simply going through the basic mafia rules and trying to think about why they existed and what would result from their non-existence.

I have already played in agame where quoting of mod pms is allowed and it isn't that big of a deal to me.
Sending of private messages is currently being done in secret message mafia.
Allowing people to post after death has been done, I think. Although, games where the dead could keep on posting forever would be really freaking weird.
Allowing discussion outside of thread wouldn't, once again, be terribly interesting.
A game all about changing the idea of a majority being needed to lynch would be fairly odd, but I'm too lazy to try and come up with something right nowl. I know individual roles have been done before.

I tried to figure out the allowing of editing, but I'm not quite sure what the end result would be, hence my creating this thread.

It could work, it would force people to pay much closer attention to the game since anyone can change what they said whenever they want. Quotes would also play a big part in the game, since it would really be the only way to give permanence to what someone else said. Of course, you could fake quote somebody and say they must've changed the original if you want to cast guilt upon them. Lots of possibilities. It sounds like it could be really interesting, but the only way to know for sure is to try it out.

Stewie's issue makes the game too uncontrollable... it would also make the game very time-based. When you logged in would have a major impact on the game. Finally, it would require every player to commit to the game, or the whole point of allowing edits would be lost.

and also players with better memory would have a better shot at it. You can still make the game, but it would be pointless, pretty much the same as playing it normally.

We'd have to hand out a lot of mod powers for this one...
