Would this work? Would this be fun?

okay i was thinking about making a survivor esque mafia game where i find games out on the internet and the players have to play them , then we have a "rest" period where everyone sends me there scores via PM and like a certain amt(1or2) cant be investigated that night or some kind of reward like that so here it is in schedule format:

day:assign a game, Players talk, get PM's, players lynch,
night: get all choices, winners reward comes into effect
next day: reveal winner(if winner was targeted, and reward was immunity that night, player stays alive)

i'll still have cop and doc and maf but mafia can be protected or whatever
so good or not

I think it could, if you have a good way to find out if the players really got that score.

anyone can press "Print Scrn SysRq" and paste it into paint, then save it and upload it into glpics, but then again, anyone like me, with PhotoShop Pro 7, can edit the picture to make the results look bigger. I once did it while ago and amazed myself with how smooth I can make it.

Don't see that one. I assume you mean "anyone can press 'Command-Shift-3.'" Non-Macintosh computers just don't exist, after all.

I think the bonus idea would be cute. I liked Mini 28's extra credit opportunity of answering a question to get a chance at nightkill protection. As far as security goes, it really can't be done unless the creator of the game does something like making verifiable passwords.

It's next to the F12 key, but iMacs and eMacs don't have it, afaik. But I'm sure that there's a way to get a still of your screen. And I believe it would be easier to edit with a Mac.

That would suck, since it would be kinda random. If you can get a way to verify someone's score, it would be great to go at higher score.

I believe something like this has been done before on the GL.

I couldn't find the thread though. But I did have a lot of fun re-reading old games :).

That's it, jeep! thanks.

I suggest you take a look at it, blackhawk. You might learn things from that game you could use (or avoid) in your own game.

Yes, probably. At least Photoshop can save stuff in BMP format, which I assume makes a .bmp image. Screenshots can be faked, period.

Call me naieve, but wouldn't it be a matter of trusting the players not to cheat? I do not believe there's a way to prevent it, so why bother trying?

The idea itself is interesting, missed Harry Potter mafia, so I do not know how it turns out.

If you ask me, you can't really trust the players tellying you the score, but I don't think anyone would go to the trouble of selecting around a number and copying in a way that it doesn't appear fake. If you show me a game, I will show you how I can cheat in it, but I wouldn't do it in the actual game. The reason is probably that if you just send the number, you write it and click send, and that's it. However, if you send the score in a faked screenshot, that gives the player time to thing about what they are doing.

Another solution is getting a game that has several levels that all look different in the starting screen. the players have to take a screenshot of that, and then you award the player that got further ahead. The only problem I can see with this is that you should always get further than all the players.

The last method I can think of is sites that you make accounts in and the site keeps record of your highest score in each game. The players would make an account (and extra one, if they have one already) and give you the password. The player would play the game, and you would check the highscores. The only problem I see with this is that it's time consuing.

well you know if everyone cheats then its all groovy cuz no ones gonna think up the same score,
or i could just do Potpourri-randomly choose like highest scopre wins, lowest score wins score that can be divided by 13 27 or 3 wins.
something like that

If it's going to be random, why not just pick random numbers?
...whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.

if it has to be a random type thing i might just change it to that or not do it at all, and wait for someone else to try it

Somehow I don' t like too much randomness in mafia games.

I like the idea mentioned by Stewie. That would make cheating very hard. But I'm afriad it's indeed to time consuming......if you ever consider modding this game, count me in.
