I'm curious as to how the OP gathered his data.

Edit: inb4 unnecessary drama, I want to learn how he gathered this data so that I can learn how to do so myself.

I skim over every Newbie game in progress and note when a replacement has occured (just by noting in the Excel file), and once a game has finished I fill in the rest (because even though who has died and what roles they have are public information, I want to stay on the safe side of mentioning ongoing games). Sometimes cross-referencing with the Newbie Queue is necessary if mods don't keep their playerlist in signup order with clear indication of who has which slot. Everything is then run through a bevy of tables and math, and the numbers just pop out.
This should be required reading for...everyone for anything, really.

Yo 'sup. I'm XL, the alt Toomai uses to track Newbie games. I basically have all ongoing Newbie games bookmarked, so I don't miss a post. It's more effective than assuming all replacements and "game X has finished" notices go through the queue.
Olé, XL here. Toomai runs the cross-universal transmitter bridge that connects me to this world and allows me to handle statistical stuff etc. (In other words, I'm an alt.)

Why would that question cause drama?

The way I posted it originally could be construed as me insulting his data gathering ability and implying the data was inaccurate. So I edited to show that I really just want to learn to compile stats like he does.

I'm looking for the 'bevies of tables and math' bit, as well as where you cross-referenced your data.

Edit: How does your spreadsheet handle multiple replacements of the same slot?

If you download the spreadsheet, you'll see the math on sheets 2 and 3.

Currently I assume that once a slot is replaced, it's been replaced and no further replacements will have an effect on the game. As a result the actual number of players being replaced is probably higher than reported. I'm working on a way to fix this.

OpenOffice doesn't seem to render the spreadsheet math properly. Why don't you type a single R for every replacement and have the math count the number of characters in each cell? I'm running OpenOffice 4.0.1 and I don't have Microsoft Excel.

That's not really surprising, it's pretty heavy-duty formulas that OO might not use the same syntax for. I don't think it's worth my time right now to try and make it work for multiple programs, so I'm afraid you're out of luck there unless you can convert the functions yourself.

I'm implementing a similar idea (a number in each cell) in a new file and will post here once it's repopulated.

Your formulas are specifically written for microsoft excel, correct?

Well, I don't know what formulas it has that other programs don't have, so pretty much yes. (Based on your screenshots, COUNTIF and COUNTBLANK look like likely culprits, and I don't know how I'd get around that.)

Weird. I'm using Office Excel 2010. Everything that has the green flag thing has the same error.
I'm downloading updates for it right now, since I forgot. Will update on whether or not this fixes the error I'm getting.

Edit: As far as I can tell, it has to do with IF($C32="T" aka the very start of the equation. MS Excel expects it to increment positively, but some parts increment negatively, or something like that. All of the errors simply say the formula is inconsistent with its surrounding formulas.

Yeah there's a ton of mixing consistent and inconsistent formulas. I have those warnings turned off.

So there isn't anything that is actually wrong then, right?

How can I contribute to keeping this spreadsheet up-to-date now that I can edit it without breaking formulas all over the place?

P.S. I have a dropbox account, if that's relevant. PM'd you my account, since I don't want it posted publicly.

I don't think Dropbox does collaboration, though I could be wrong.

Dropbox does simple collaboration fairly easily for free users. You can 'share' folders or files with other dropbox users. All users can change files and files count against everyone's file storage space. If more than one edit is made within a short time frame, multiple versions of the file will be made.

Edit: Removed in-progress game tabs.

Edit 2: I'm interested in helping with data entry, not making formulae.

Eh I'm not sold that collaboration is necessary at this time, it takes 10-20 minutes of work a day to update. (I'm also working on a version 2, which will be just improved overall in several areas (like counting multiple replacements of one slot), but might need to be in a totally different input format.)

That said,
hey mods if you're reading this, it's most appreciated to keep a full playerlist that's in signup order
. It just makes everything easier.

Bit of a teaser for the upcoming v2:

Version 2 of the spreadsheet is out. It's quite a bit beefier than the previous version (700KB+) but gives us a much better idea of replacement stats. I'll be updating the first post shortly.

Version 1 will no longer be updated and I'll probably delete the link to it.
