Made the category and updated the navigation. You can get the setup template to sort pages in it by adding "Design Contest Winning" behind one of the type parameters. Feel free to add more information to the category page itself, I only wrote a brief description as a placeholder.
Maybe adding a reference to it in Category:Open Setups would be good as well.

You can find the new category here: Category:Design Contest Winning Setups

I've been busy lately but I really need to get back to finishing the things I started making like fixing the bugs in the CSS template and adding all game history data to the SetupHistory Databases to make maintenance easier later.

Oh, for those that hadn't noticed. PokerFace has been adding some missing role pages to the wiki. Things like goo now exist and some pages have been merged together or improved.

Hey wgeurts so im dumb

How do I add the setups to that category?

"type=Design Contest Winning
type2=Design Contest Winning"

Or any type up to type6. This is for the {{Setups
#Stuff#
}}
By the way.

and now i never have the time.
Used to love playing with the wikis.

Speaking of wiki, I just started (before i read any of this) a setup page for Grand Idea, I might want your help with later.

I'm not burnt out, I'm just busy with my education at the moment. I usually do stuff in the holidays.

So in 4 weeks I'm free because of holidays, I'm planning to finish my to-do list during this period. This currently consists of:
  • Sorting and categorising the Theory and Templates category.
  • Add the setupHistory template to all setups and generate statistics using it.
  • Redo the CSS template to fix some flaws (my JavaScript has improved since I made this).
  • Make the Auto Navigation Menu more aesthetically pleasing.
  • Finish the guide to making cool scummers pages.

If you would like anything done now's the time to say so.
Setup Page? Sure.
Sort Something? Sure.
Some Random Feature? Sure.
Anything you want added/changed.

It would be neat if there was a way to search the wiki by setup. like 4:9 or 3:1:9 or 2:2:9. I tried typing “2:2:9” into the search and it didn’t work.

What do you mean by "search by setup"?
If you mean by searching ratio of roles it would have to be done by adding that info to all the pages.
Maybe I could make a tag template to do this?

i mean searching by ratio, yeah. If I wanted to see all 15 player games that have 5 scum in them (singleball) or 10:4:1 or 10:3:2 or whatever.

Like, Matrix6 is 7:2. If I want to see what other 7:2 setups are out there, there currently isn’t a good way to do that.I could start here: http://wiki.mafiascum.net/index.php?tit ... pen_Setups and then have to click on each page 1 by 1. Or Elemental Large was 3:1:12 and if I was interested in what other 3:1:12 setups exist I wouldn’t be able to find that easily.

This would also solve the question of “okay, we have 11 people, if 1 of them is moderator, what setups can we run together?"

couldn't you just have another set of categories

Matrix6 could be in Category:9p and Category:7-2 and Elemental Mafia could be in Category:12-3-1 and Category:16p

is there a quick way to find all links to the old normal queue and replace them with links to the new queue?

Yes.
But it's not really an elegant solution.

It'd basically involve me adding JS to replace all the old links with a new one each time the page loads. Which I'd rather not do. I'm willing to do so while you're replacing them to fill any gaps left, but it'd just be lazy (and slow down load times every so slightly for slower devices) to rely on this.

@Psyche:
How many setup categories do we need?
You'd need a seperate category for each ratio as the sort key has already been used to sort them all by size.

I don't want to automatically change the links, I just want a quick way to find them all so that I can then change them.

the old thread is http://forum.mafiascum.net/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=29494 and the new thread is http://forum.mafiascum.net/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=62103

it might be linked using the plink template thing as well?

So I've been messing around with game record templates, as in tables that you use to keep track of all your games and what your roles were and who the mod was and whether you win or lost, etc., etc. It takes a lot of copying and pasting and a lot of going through game by game and gathering little bits of info.

I like these tables on people's wikis because it makes it easier to research meta and easier for each player to keep track of their own games and which player's they've played with. It's kind of like a mafia journal.

So I started thinking of ways to make it easier for players to make their own tables using templates, and I started wondering whether it would be all that difficult to build some sort of interface that would make things easier for people who don't know how to handle the template codes. Like just a bunch of boxes that ask each thing about the game that the code asks, but in a more user-friendly way.

Another thing is that I need to figure out a way to make the template I'm using work better with roles that don't have their own wiki pages. Right now, if it looks for a wiki page that doesn't exist it'll mess up the code and return a bunch of brackets along with the text and no link. Would be better to just have it redlink.

Anyway, this stuff is beyond my very limited coding know-how so I was wondering if anybody has some thoughts on how to accomplish either of those things? Or with the UI idea, whether that would even be worth the work that it would take.

Voila, only one page in need of updating.

As for tool, I can look into making one however it won't be made anytime soon as I've got other things first on my list. As for fixing the roles link:
Try {{#IFEXIST... Google it and you'll find an article on it along with all the other default template functions.

Yeah it's more a pet project than a priority I think.

Cool I'll look into that, thanks.

Haha wow so that turned out to be a far easier fix than I thought it would be. Turns out the template called for the role cell to jump through a bunch of hoops. I just replaced it with |align="center"|[[{{{role}}}]] and now it just redlinks whenever the page doesn't exist.

That ifexist tag is interesting though, could be useful for the future.
