Issues I've identified:
Notes ordered by player fail to record events in context.
Notes ordered by time don't highlight how the views of an individual change.
Spreadsheets, people on one axis and time on the other, quickly become unwieldy and hard to maintain.
It appears that not much beats checking ISOs and rereading, but there should be a better way.

When I keep notes in game I create a simple word doc. Each player in the game gets their own individual page. I type notes on posts, what the post was in reference to, what my thoughts were on each post.
Then in addition to that I'll keep a separate page on how players interact and whom I haven't interacted with enough. I've only done this twice though it was very useful albeit I've stopped taking the game that seriously. Separately I have a "musings" page on my wiki that I will sometimes reference to remind myself of things that happen in games overall.

Furthermore highly detailed VCA is much easier with a spreadsheet.
These are just things you should do or know instead of planning it out.
How many people long for that "past, simpler, and better world," I wonder,
without ever recognizing the truth that perhaps it was they who were simpler and better,
and not the world about them?

Why wait to lay your trap or claim?

I keep all my notes in notepad. It takes up space but I organize it and i keep context by putting the post numbers of everything next to what I'm talking about. The way I play I build up cases against/for everyone in the game and write down possible connections as I go.
I definitely dont put most of it in the thread when I think of it and the only things that ever make it to the thread are summaries when I give reads lists or when I'm really confident about a mafia read I will say so and why ofc.

^I do this too. I feel like it leads to me giving more info instead of analysis sometimes though.
Word is only for creating documents that other people will see.
Notepad is only for writing down things you're prepared to forget.
OneNote is the best windows application for this by far.

I (when I actually bother taking notes) usually use notes in Word sorted by player. I usually note post numbers in any given comment and also some context if necessary
Another benefit of notes is noting little things too small to mention but still maybe scummy if there's a pattern.
I tend to take notes mostly when reading a game I just replace into or on the first day or two of a game.
