I guess you could just tell the cop what his sanity is to avoid failing the bastardness criterion, but I don't really see the point of making cops insane if you're going to tell them that they're insane, so.
My favorite site mod is Zor Tester.

But the thing anout insane cops is that they don't know they're insane. If a cop knows it's insane, then it isn't insane. Isn't that insane?

That's psychiatry 101 for you: If the patient's admitting they've got a problem, that's were the "healing" starts.

I agree with this interpretation.

I think the only way that sanities can be incorporated into a setup successfully without rendering the setup bastard is if the mod is transparent about the presence of cop sanities in the setup.

I would just go with, "You are a cop, each night you may attempt to investigate one player. If successful, you will receive a result of "guilty" or "not guilty" to indicate whether that player is aligned with the Mafia. Your sanity is not guaranteed."

Simple. To the point. Doesn't tell them more than they need to know and doesn't give them false security. In Bipolar Mafia, the cop had sanity that depended on whether the game phase was Angry or Depressed, and we told the cop, "You are sane in exactly one of these phases."
Join me on my quest to play every NES game! Some of them are awful.

Kuribo's read is foolproof: one night he was high on NyQuil, and he's ancestors reveiled Aureal's alignment to him. - Dessew

I think it depends on how the cop role pm is worded. If you lead the player to believe they're sane when they're not then it's bastard. If you allude to the fact that they may not be certain of their sanity, then I think it's ok.

I agree with the first part, but the second part (allude to the fact that they may not be sane) is fairly subjective.

Wait
Traitors investigate as Town to regular Cops?

Also, pretty sure that telling a cop "you might be sane" is definitely NotNormal

IMO cop sanities are not bastard if you outright list the possible options. "You are a Naive, Paranoid, Insane, or Sane Cop." That's not normal, but it isn't bastard either.

And fwiw, "Cop of Unknown Sanity" would be the matching rolecop result there; the role's marked as unknown-sanity, but the sanity itself isn't public, and I don't interpret rolecops as being able to see modnotes.

That isn't normal, you're right.

It also makes having them turn up to be paranoid not bastard since their role PM said it could happen.

I'm not convinced that it's standardised what Traitors investigate as.
