The thing about using straight winrate is Mafia is a team game and a lot of the time weak towns get carried by the strong ones. Or town/scumsided setups. coughteammafiacough
This is why only setups that have been proven to be balanced should be used for ratings, if ratings are used at all.
True, this further reduces the sample size, but this cannot be avoided.

I also object to giving points for "not getting lynched". Sometimes getting lynched is inevitable, and sometimes it can help you to win the game. Your system is highly biased towards your preferred playing style.
Thus, I would only award points for winning the game. However, due to the nature of Mafia (and the many players involved), it will take some time before the rating starts to reflect your skills, so some might even consider a rating system for Mafia inappropriate.
Thanks for the input. As town not getting lynched isn't a super huge factor, but as scum I think that is crucial. If you never get lynched as scum, you'll win every game. And I realize this system has its flaws, but I feel like the individual player can have a much bigger impact on their rating then if it was just based on wins/losses, because I can lead town in lynching scum D1 then get NK'ed on N1 and then the town tanks and I get a loss despite playing rlly well.
And I'm not going to force ppl to participate in a rating system. So if you want to ignore it, that's fine.
I'm going to update my wiki to my latest game now - (and it's the scum where I talked about that my team won in.)

winrate is an OK indicator of skill level as scum. not so much as town because when you're town there's too much shit going on that you have literally no control over, and it isn't uncommon for one or two completely unrelated things to mess up an entire game in a way where you have no way of preempting or stopping it. I've had at least 3 recent-ish town losses happen entirely because one or two people messed up in the most magnificent way possible and did something that basically killed off any chance town had at winning the game regardless of anything I did. this is more the case if you get killed before you have a chance to have any influence on the game
being endgamed and/or lynched as town are probably a good indicator that you didn't play passably
usually the metrics I use for measuring my own town play are total # scum caught, and overall lynching accuracy overall (SWA).

I intend to prob end up doing some of the more basic theme games soon-ish, but some have weird mechanics that I wouldn't know how to deal with and need to figure out and then role madness-y games would rlly skew some stats and I haven't figured out a way to adjust them.
aronis, playerlists can skew some of the stats really, there are so many variables that come into play as to why a team wins. if you have a playerlist that is able to work together as either alignment that will heavily influence as to the outcome of the game.
I like to consider myself an overall pretty good mafia player. But I know some people would probably disagree.

I was about to bring this up, but you brought it up for me.
Also, bussing circumstantially is correct, but it requires scum to have made a mistake prior.
So I have a decent way of doing most themes and will probably try to add them sometime. It just makes there be alot more games to have to work through. For me alone it goes from 5 games to calculate to like 35 and then with some mods not keeping things super organized, I have to dig for stuff and it can end up being very time consuming.
Are you ranking just scum - or overall player performance?
