i.e., claiming "2-shot Informed Tracker" as a full gunsmith and mindfucking me cos I didn't stop to realize you had a role that would have allowed you to get another inno? yes :P

claiming a tracker guilty when you have a cop guilty is one I also used to hear about a lot but I hardly ever see it done now

/shrug.

lying as town is very common is my f2f group. not faking guilties, but things like, claiming doctor as bulletproof. or claiming a weak role as cop. when it works, it can completely fuck maf over.

i think it has it's place.

If I ever draw godfather I've thought that would be the best method. Somewhat true is how I claim as scum

It actually happened in a game where IC fakeclaimed a miller.

I think people try to replicate this kind of thing, ignoring all the things that could have sent said fakeclaim crashing down in flames.

I loved reading this game

I think only time this would be a descent idea would be if you were in a bastard game and wanted to check your sanity. Though it would be a far better idea to investigate yourself to check sanity

DIFFERENT

f2f games last for minutes and there's no investment in the game as there is on ms. the mods don't take a lot of time making a setup (except reck) and the game itself probably only lasts about 10 to 15 minutes, if even that.

in marathon games and f2f games, gambit away.

Yeah I mean I'm generally really straightforward in games
But *this*.

In saki achiga hen mafia, me and sonic were masons. I was a weak jailkeeper, and he was a one shot cop who could only use his shot if I did no action that night. He died...night 2 I think? So he had used his shot, and I had 1 weak jailkeeper use by then, which I was effectively using as a cop.

So anyway he dies, I claim as his mason buddy and that we were BOTH 1 shot cops and out both of our innocents.

Best case scenario scum believes I'm useless and leaves me alone. Worst case scenario scum gives 0 fucks and kills me anyway..which me underclaiming my role did nothing to motivate them too.

Day 4 I go jk and out my other innocent and I think by then we won the game

----

Space dandy mafia I'm a 2 shot vig. At one point I have to claim. I claim 1 shot.

----

*shrugs eternally*

I think underclaiming is almost always fine until a massclaim happens, and overclaiming (saying you have more shots/ are slightly more powerful than you actually are) can be okay in some situations too.

The main thing is, if you fakeclaim something that has more than a ridiculously miniscule reason for why scum might do it, you should expect to be lynched for it, and you'll deserve it. And being too dumb to see that you fakeclaiming almost any role can be seen by other players as scum trying to out town power roles or survive longer is nobody's fault but your own. If you keep it close to the truth, AND can coherently explain exactly why you why you did it before people start becoming suspicious of you (because there's no reason for scum to not try to change their claim if it looks like the current one is going down it flames), then it might turn out okay.

Otherwise, fakeclaiming is probably not going to work out like you hope because other people a)don't have the absolute knowledge of your alignment that you do and much more importantly b)
are not you
and won't share and understand your thought processes and internal logic.

if you do fakeclaim and get lynched for it, this message is pre-emptively for you: nothing you did was obviously town or obviously makes sense or obvious anything, learn that people are different, your own knowledge and experience bias you beyond measure, and shut the fuck up.

there's no reason to. if you have to backtrack and have to change your claim later, there's a good chance you won't be believed and rightfully so for reasons gamma already pointed out

yes. that's because VIs are the only ones that do it.

There's three times a PR will claim:

They're getting Lynched:
Fucking moronic, don't do this.
They have a night action result:
What
During Mass Claim:
Has occasionally worked out. Still fucking moronic, mass claim is either to try and narrow down the last scum or "day before LyLo" situation, and in neither of them is your power more of a benefit than having the information you have one.

If you feel a bizarre need to claim something for no reason at a random time, don't do this.

Im once again reminded of State Farm mafia.

Although that mostly ended with DGB having a stroke and scum getting steamrolled regardless.

The town should not always tell the truth, or else the scum will assume that everything spoken anywhere is 100% true, which gives them even more of an edge than they already do. Now, I'm not suggesting to lie your ass off, but to be strictly truthful gives the mafia an edge.

Also, if you're ever caught in a lie, you'll always be executed under the assumption that lying = scum.

As a scum player at heart, I'll always take town shrouded in paranoia over some bits of info about who has what role or what they did during some nights

Not necessary - I'd execute liar for simply being detrimental to town and gamethrowing
