Where can I find behind-the-scenes scum strategies?

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Tue Dec 01, 2015 3:33 pm

Post by OceanWind »

When a game finishes, a lot of the time, mafia don't say much in their private conversations. But once in a while, you find a PT where the mafia explain their strategies in abundant detail and the entire plan comes together very well. Digging through old games is a task sometimes that isn't very rewarding for the amount of digging done. So, I'm posting this here for guidance. I'm basically asking for a couple of things.

1. Do you remember any games regardless of your alignment where the mafia threads were full of planning and strategy? If so, can you link me to those games/mafia threads?

2. Who are generally regarded as among the top scum players on this site? (I realize opinions might vary and that's fine. I just want to get a general picture of who are well known scum players so I can read through their scumgames and mafia threads for my own education/entertainment). Just throw a few names out there along with what they are well-known for or any memorable games.

I DO

here's what i'm talking about
mini 1504: antihero mafia reboot
and here's the scum qt (yes, this was back when we used quicktopic): http://www.quicktopic.com/50/H/yVgS3tMuM9Sk

it was pretty awesome watching the scum qt for that one and how it developed parallel to the game thread. the scumteam had a lot of synergy and was really strong

(by the way, etl and sthar8 who were scum that game are generally regarded to have kickass scumgames.

another good read is pirate mollie's recent scumgame in FF7, you can find that in the theme games

a good place to go if you're looking for games that impressed ppl in general is the scummies nom thread: http://forum.mafiascum.net/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=60496
there's a category for "best scumteam")

Disclaimer: I'm still a decrepit being from the distant past who doesn't read games she's not in, that didn't stop being a thing or anything.

There are scummie nomination threads for other years, too, if you dig back. The actual winners are here, although no one filled in 2014 for some reason. Note that PTs didn't exist until 2014, and even quicktopics weren't always a thing. I just spontaneously glanced through Nachomamma's GTKAS ISO, which probably means something. You might like #swag wars, that's pretty recent. Here's its scum PT.

You could try Cabd, Nachomamma8, Lady Lambdadelta, RedCoyote and Yosarian2 for people with strong scumgames. (I have no or almost no mafia experience with the first four, and for some reason Yosarian has never actually been scum in a game with me despite our history.) The first two are busier nowadays, and while they still play, you might want to go a year or two back.

If you want explanations of what is meant to be happening, try mastin2. I haven't read through them personally, but I know she likes to discuss through stuff in too much detail everywhere.

I guess there's also whether the scum team have daytalk or not, as it's probably mostly games with daytalk that get scum more invested in communicating their thoughts in the PT, as constant access beats out limited nighttalk access.

Try TSO and Marquis. They are good at scum. Also, Plotinus is very detailed in her Scum PT's as well-especially in newbie's where she IC's.

Oh, right! Also zMuffinMan. I don't know much about his scum game either, but he did win a game via rap battle once. This automatically makes him the best human being on the site on top of being legitimately good scum.

Titus is another person to look out for. She generally posts her thoughts and plans in the scum PT when its open, and she's not a weak scum either.

The only caveat is that she doesn't go into a lot of detail.

That's a fun one - super strong scum team (that got massively trolled by the vig), with the added bonus that the dead scum could continue posting in the QT.

Kind of this.

Pick it up, then try to actively forget and scumhunt legitimately. Don't even look at who your partners are.

That way, going into the first night, you already have a foundation of strong fundamental reads that you can play off for the rest of the game.

Also remember that town is wrong a lot, so don't worry if one of your scum reads ends up being a townie by the time you learn your partners N1.

I am pretty proud of the History Mafia II scum pt. I had 2 partners who were newer players and one was replaced by another newer player and they were pretty great and we worked well together and did lots of planning and stuff and starting halfway through, there are pretty charts. Game thread.
