I have yet to use an alt. Not sure if I will or not. I don't mind them a bit except I hate when they know more about me than I do about them. That bugs me.

I have an IRL friend who has an alt that has a posting that absolutely love, it is really funny and entertaining but he replaced into a game that I was scum in and I didn't know who he was at the time but it was obvs he knew me and rather well and it gave him a huge advantage wiped out my entire team in 3 days. and that is the problem I have with alts is that they have an advantage of knowing who you are and you not knowing them. I can understand if some1 wants to experiment with a different playstyle but I do not like the advantage that they have.

and this has happened so many times. I have also found myself in situations where I am forced to play with some1 that I wld rather avoid. sometimes I can figure them out but I really feel like it is a cowardly way dodge meta.

But see, this is what evens it out. You may have the advantage that you know them and they don't, but it's for naught if you can't bring up said knowledge without outing yourself.

I suck at figuring out alts even if they know me and say meta things about me because I've played in so many games at this point, I have no idea who they are unless they out specific games. If they say specific games, they are screwed which is why Wisdom makes a good point-they can only go so far with it.

Agree with mollie on the coming in with an alt knowing you don't want to play with them or doing it just to fuck with your game because they know you-is underhanded as hell.

I'm good with using them to try out other playstyles. I would only do it for that reason if I ever do,

But wouldnt you get frustarted knowing someon is scum yet you couldn't get them lynched w/o outing alt?

Yes, that's the point. An alt has the advantage of dodging meta yet being able to read others, but the disadvantage of not being able to bring up meta stuff. So it's all even.

I used an alt primarily to subvert expectations.
Trying your hardest as town can be tiring.
Being called scum for not playing at a high level right at the start of D1 only makes it worse.

It's funny how my alt eventually started getting that reputation as well. :/

I think someone intentionally using an alt to abuse meta for their own benefit is a little dumb, and while it does come at the disadvantage of preventing direct reference to meta, if you're good at making arguments, you could just convince people that someone is scummy for other reasons, having used meta as a basis for reaching the conclusion that you're pushing.

The problem is that if your reason is meta, the secondary reasons might come to you as confbias, and that can weaken those reasons significantly.

Yeah, I'm starting to have a similar issue as town. If I don't start off strong I get all the, "Silver doesn't have her fire, spark, etc." not playing to her town game and must be scum shit that in a way, I get but is also annoying because I can't really relax and not put so much effort in without getting scumread and pushed if people who know me are in the game. It is very tiring.

So yeah Cheet, I get why you would use an alt for that reason. But I also get how your alt now has that same rep. You just can't stop playing who you are. So I doubt I'll ever alt.

Ive had that problem, still kinda do but i have kinda toned myselfdown to a point where people can set expectations to me where i dont care enough to always do such thing.

Like meta would always dictate "if ika post hes town, if he does not hes scum" i have started to reach a point where i do it as both alignments and people suing that reason alone dont know me anymore or that theres a lot of external things that go on with me that impact my play very much so outside of my alignments itself

mollie is posting TOO much so mollie is scum.
mollie changed the spelling of "hi guyz wats going on" so therefore mollie is scum.
mollie is using punctuation so is scum.
mollie hasn't gotten in any shit wars so mollie is scum.
mollie is being nice so mollie is scum.
mollie is being mean to me so mollie is scum.
mollie is misreading me so mollie is definitely scum.
mollie isn't bossing pple around so mollie is scum.
mollie isn't bullying any1 so mollie is scum.

and the list goes on and on. I mean these are things that ppl have

said.

but if it ever gets to the point where it bothers me I will probably go the route of thorella and add a section on my wiki ridiculing it, I am not going to create alt just avoid it. I understand where you guys are coming from I really do cos I get it too! it just doesn't change how I feel about alts.

I agree with mollie - I have always just loled at people going "this isn't town-Wisdom" and just reminded them that there is no such thing and that they simply can't meta me. I won't ever need an alt.

Yeah, alts are still you so over time, your personality will show up and any reputations you had previously will follow you. You have to either learn to own it or keep making new ones. I kind of go back and forth between owning it and switching accounts.
