Questions about a theme I am working on.

So my goal is to have three potential town teams and 1 scum team. The game will start with all town players on one team but one of three flavours. If the Mason relevant to their flavour dies their entire faction becomes it's own town and has to eliminate everyone else. I am currently working on the balance and would appreciate any suggestions people may have.

Starcraft Mafia
Abilities activate once your team’s Mason has died.

Protoss(Town 1)
Probe, Protoss Vanilla
Zealot, Protoss BP Vigilante(loses ability if a Protoss is shot)
Sentry, Protoss Doctor(only works on Protoss)
Warp Prism, Protoss 1 Shot Reviver(only works on Protoss if Mason is dead/cannot revive Masons)
Dark Templar, Protoss Desperado(dies if Protoss is targeted)
High Templar, Protoss Mason

Zerg(Town 2)
Drone, Zerg Vanilla
Hydralisk, Zerg BP Vigilante(loses ability if a Zerg is shot)
Queen, Zerg Doctor(only works on Zerg)
Infestor, Zerg Redirector
Baneling, Zerg Bomb(will not affect Zerg if Mason is dead)
Overlord, Zerg Mason

Terran(Town 3)
SCV, Terran Vanilla
Marine, Terran BP Vigilante(loses ability if Terran is shot)
Medic, Terran Doctor(only works on Terran)
Ghost, Terran Paranoid Gun Owner(cannot kill Terran if Mason is dead)
Thor, Terran Gladiator(Cannot use on Terran if Mason is dead)
Raven, Terran Mason

This isn't a game of mafia. The point of towns is to be the uninformed majority, and once a race splits off, it isn't a majority anymore. Just being bigger than the scumteam doesn't make it one.

That makes things all pretty arbitrary, because the whole point of mafia is that people who know who their side is play differently from people who aren't, and those differences can be spotted. But that difference wouldn't exist here.

none of the towns would know who each other is though and through night kills and ML's one team would still always have a majority.

That's a plurality, not a majority, and it's not even a particularly big one. That isn't enough to make them a town.

Basically, in a mafia game, there's one faction that every other faction is pretending to be. That doesn't exist here, or at least it won't exist for long, so it isn't a mafia game.

Ok so let's call it a variant on the game of Mafia, the points you are bringing up are completely irrelevant to the topic at hand, what can/should I do to help keep this balanced.

And for the record I do understand the game of Mafia, I play it all the time and have hosted many a games. What I am posting here for are suggestions not irrelevant semantics.

Even without any of that, the members of this forum will have no experience balancing a game like that because as has been pointed out, it's not mafia.

What I don't get is why there is so much negativity towards this idea. If you don't agree with it fine, why bother posting anything? There is no need to be adamant about trying to shut it down before it's even begun. If the game fails miserably, whatever at least I tried something new and tried to spice up a game meant for fun in new and different ways.

No because their wincon is and always will be to eliminate the threats to their faction. You act as if cultists, traitors, and other recruitment style factions don't exist.

Yes, and cultists/recruiting factions are considered bastardly and are heavily discouraged from existing specifically because they change win conditions.

Traitors do not change wincons.
