I was just curious because I don't really know much about what is and isn't allowed when you're posting with alts.

You can't join newbie games as a newbie, although you can replace into them or wait until the alt has SE or IC experience and join as one of those. On the discussion side, you can't put alts in the Speakeasy or GTKAS.

That's about it. (With that said, I really hate alts and wish people wouldn't use them.)

And obviously, you can't play in the same game under two different accounts (unless one replaces the other).

When you do this, do you have to announce that you're an alt, or do you just ask to replace in the way you normally would?

actually some1 confessed in a recent they were in that they already had an account on here and they had joined a newbie as a newb!

I think it happens way more than pple think it does.

You don't have to tell the mod of the game, or the queue. The listmod needs to know in order to verify that you aren't cheating, but you can mention you're an alt while you're creating the alt account (this lets the people who need to verify the lack of cheating do their verification), and so don't need to mention it separately.

Incidentally, I replaced into my first two games, which were both newbies. I was an actual newbie, but some people concluded I was an alt, at least partly based on that (as it would have been the only legal way for me to play in a newbie game as an alt; you can't queue as a newbie unless you actually are, and can't queue as an SE unless you've played enough games
on that account
).

Almost every mod (at least the ones I know) would require you to reveal yourselves to the mod.

This is to ensure you're not someone trying to sneak in after you've been an insufferable dick to them or their players.

I see people on here speculating constantly every time some hot-headed newbie is in a game, "oh I think you're a kuribo alt."

I find this hilarious because 1- I don't really do the alt thing. What's the point of being me if nobody knows? and 2- I've tried it and i end up blowing my cover within like six posts. Just a waste of time.

I normally have a look at the history of the account, which is normally enough to tell if someone's obnoxious regardless of whether they're on an alt or not.

Occasionally I've asked clarifying questions, but I haven't turned down anyone for a game yet. (I reserve the right to, but am hoping that I won't have to!)

It's so refreshing to see someone being polite in a discussion forum.

Just to clear up the telling the mod thing. General etiquette says that you should tell the mod but that discretion of alt-ness is in the domain of the player. (For non newbie situations)
Don't @ me.
