Tunneling Scum

There seems to be an incredibly frustrating site meta that has developed since the last time I played about 2 years ago of hardcore tunneling a singular player, often a lynch that would be otherwise harder to achieve and it's getting under my skin. I have actually seen little to no tunneling from town in my recent games and deathtunneling has seemed to come almost exclusively from scum. I think this needs to be addressed, because this is ridiculous and frustrating to deal with.

Here's how it benefits the mafia:
1. It keeps doubt in the minds of town players that said tunneled player is town even if said player would often be considered strong town by day 2/day 3.
2. It keeps the victim from calling the predator out for fear of having "OMGUS!" screamed like a professional soccer player falls to the ground holding his leg and yells in pain when the ball is taken from him.
3. It gets the scum a town read because it's seen as "pushing his reads"
4. The scum player doesn't have to interact with the rest of the game or share reads other than "<victims name> needs to die, they're obvscum"

This needs to be callled out as scum like every time it's seen because it almost always comes from scum.

Eh. I'm talking more about death tunneling that spans days than tunneling in general. I'm talking more about the kind of tunnel where you pretty Mich ignore the rest of the game. I think most people "tunnel" but only scum actually tunnel. Idk.

I've seen town do what you're saying. You have to find the nuance in all interactions as town. Blindly calling something "always coming from scum" is going to bite you at some point. Especially if you're vocal about it.

I think the most important skill a town player can have is discerning the difference between scumflail and townflail.

that usually takes care of deathtunneling as town. scum will sometimes do it cos what else are they supposed to do lol.

as cheet already pointed out "tunneling" in and of itself is more of a playstyle thing than an alignment thing.

THAT SAID, there's a difference between scum tunneling and town tunneling and it is possible to tell the difference.

aggressive play, when the situation calls for it, is absolutely, absolutely necessary for town to win. i can guarantee that if everyone did what you're saying here, and everyone just gave up on pushing lynches because "they're more difficult" or "they're not what other people want", town would win less than 10% of games.

a lot of the problems you have with "scum death tunneling" are alignment-related issues that usually aren't present when town makes a strong push on a player. i think you either have just been unlucky, or aren't reading into it enough to spot these differences.

Death tunneling, as in tunneling until the player dies, without discussion or laying off or reconsideration at any point != tunneling. I have no problem with tunneling. Tunneling is necessary. I tunnel. Regularly. Death tunneling is anti town out the wazoo and not aggression. If it's from town it's due to confbias and stupidity.

Not saying you should stop pushing reads when you're certain of them. I'm saying you should never pick a player at the start of d1 and then tunnel them until they die.

If anyone is doing this as town feel free to just make sure you don't get any games with me, there's no thought put into it at all and its so anti town please don't even get me started
