How can you scumhunt scum for not scumhunting if scum are scumhunting scum? 2hard4me.
IDK I guess there are other ways to find scum than seeing if they're scumhunting is genuine but it's harder?

it's not an informed minority vs and uninformed majority. it's very, very, very slightly less uninformed minorities vs uninformed majority. you're not looking for people who know EVERYONE'S alignment, just one or two other people's (and that makes it significantly harder)
it's neat if you like a forum version of laser tag, but there's really not much "scumhunting" involved
The distance between insanity and genius is measured only by success.
Announcing the number of factions in a game should be more of a thing than it currently is.
I dislike multiball because it's a greater deviation from a simple Mafia game than I'm comfortable playing! Antihero's post 5 hits the nail on the head, too.

^basically this entire post, except I don't particularly think SKs are broken in the same way multiball is as long as the game is balanced accordingly.
the only argument I've seen justifying multiball as a game mechanic is the "if you play well and lynch scum then it shouldn't matter how many factions there are", which seems pretty clearly false to me. theoretically, it's possible to enter an autoloss scenario in setups such as Masons/Monks after one mislynch, if you continuously lynch scum from the wrong faction (the complete opposite of "if you play well and lynch scum then it shouldn't matter how many factions there are"). I've seen scenarios in practice where town in multiball has been suffocated after something like two mislynches. there is no argument I can think of for it being more skill-based than a single-faction game, and this doesn't even account it's also a complete crapshoot for scum in terms of avoiding crosskills.
Although the issues with multiball described above are real, there's another major one.
The fact is that with three (or more) factions, two factions can get a temporary advantage to the detriment of the third by teaming up at least until the third faction is almost eliminated. This means that games are typically decided via which factions decide to ally with which (this is most obvious in the 1:1:1 endgame in which exactly one of the scum is bulletproof, but can happen in other endgames and earlier in the game too). For example, it can often be hardly relevant how good town's scumhunting is; the scum will be better at it (they have more information) and they also have a kill, so the game will be mostly decided by whether they aim for town or for each other.
I'm 1-2 as scum in multiball (1-2 if you count US Election 2008 where I was a third party who joined whoever killed him first and joined a scum team at endgame) Attitude Era 2.0 and Red Dead Redemption Mafia were losses, a normal I replaced into was the one win
I'm undefeated as town in multiball to my knowledge at 2-0. (Weather Mafia II and Chrono Trigger)
That's for closed setups. Ironically I've done worse as town in OPEN multiball where I already know there are multiple scum teams

If they're not lynching scum they're playing poorly.
If they're playing poorly they should have a poor chance to win.
There are things that can happen that are beyond any faction's control in multiball. For instance a town playing well can fall victim to two night kills on several consecutive nights and have their faction devastated through no fault of their own. Scum can have their faction obliterated by nightkills instead of lynches.
I don't think it's impossible to scumhunt in multiball, but I don't agree with the argument that the results of a multiball game will generally be the direct result of how the factions play.
I remember in A Ice vs Fire where every scum survived until town had only one member left, then had to settle for a draw or lose. Both factions played really well but neither could win.
