Favourite Roles For Modding

Wondering what everyone's favourite kind of roles are for when they're modding.

Can be types of roles or specific roles. Can also give examples from games you've hosted in the past.

Ie: I really like taking a role that exists and changing how it works just slightly to make a new role that's kind of hard to predict the effect of.
In the first Paint Mafia I hosted, I put in a neighborizer that made its target ascetic for that night and the following day. It ended up causing some nasty balancing issues, but I still really like the way that the role functioned and the potential strategy that could be employed by it in the context of that setup [even if i still kind of regret not foreseeing some implications from it q.q]

Was also pretty happy with "Backup of all Trades" from the second mini normal I hosted. It got a 1-shot ability from any town PR that died. Was fun trying to figure out all of the different possible outcomes and how to balance around that and seeing how it ended up functioning in reality.

Also contrary to what ether says, I am not a watcher-lover. I do have a certain fondness for hiders and mimes. I think those roles give the fun situations of their original roles without the sharp edges that come with it, and somehow become fair. I guess you should put hider as the actual answer.

yeah but that's the boring answer

Because it is a sensible point that the game in it's core is pretty but wonderfully complex, take a few goons, take some vt's, put them in a room and you have a game where a splendidly complex meta can arise. Where people yell at each other, but manage to set aside their differences, where actual mob mentality is employed. It's all wonderfully interesting.

It's such a shame that that game gets boring if it's made to be balanced by random lynching, there'd be only so many bad guys and tons of VT's. And those games are a drag Powerroles then, are a necessary evil. They disrupt the flow of a game with very simple rules that is made complex only by it's players, and somehow impose themselves on top of that, make themselves more important than the interactions between people. People might think it's cool to be that guy who's powerful, but not everybody can be powerful and at the end if you add it up, the experience for everybody playing the game has become just a little less.

If only they weren't required to create a balanced game, and perhaps create some imput to start the game up. But that's not the reality we live in, VT may be the best role, but it's not the answer this thread is looking for

In practical terms players who had access to a private forum were banned from it for the duration of the effect. The player who has the role used it to great effect, even though he didn't know it because he didn't get any feedback.

But I have quite a few ready to be used in future games which I can't wait to see in action.
