This only works if the players in question want to improve and actively seek to do so.

I can point to a number of newer players who are happy with what they bring to the game and don't see it as bad or detrimental to their teammates and thus ignore anything said on improving their play.
so much this.

I view it as a natural outgrowth of the type of thinking that made Blink popular. people love their gut reads, but any valid gut read can actually be explained in a way that isn't just "lol gut". I've found that there are a lot of players who value things that have nothing to do with mafia and are more about validating their worldview (ie. building townblocs) or when they think that a certain "way" of playing is inherently town/scum. you can't give people constructive criticism when their paradigm is so radically different than yours.

Give me a few days to be solid on the setup but I think I could work with that list. I've been toiling on my magnum opus and it's going slow so I like the idea of banging out a simpler setup that still is a little weird, just to have made any setup in 2016.

I have been daydreaming about setup ideas from yesterday. Let me know etc.

Now now pardner – let's not be a freddy funsucker – join date's immaterial. What happened to mafia being about honing your skill, battles of will, and the thrill of the kill.

Far as I'm concerned the greenest there is can draw pistols by my side as long as he's got a little moxie and can sweat out learning a thing or two the hard way.

That said I'm itchin to skin a smokewagon or two and have me a nice satisfying showdown with ... those more of a grizzled persuasion... :)

If Spyspy, Troll and Untrod are up for it then count me /in as well, maybe dust off a spaghetti western theme while you're at it if you really wanna blow the paint off~

If I compare games now with what I remember, the main difference I see is posting style and posting quantity.

In 2007, the smallest large normal was done in 20 pages, the largest took 132 pages. In 2011, it was still 27 pages for the smallest, 131 for the largest. The three large normals started this year had 192,128 and 177 pages, respectively.

However, it feels to me that a lot of that length comes from players posting one liners back and forth. I haven't seen as many wall wars as I used to.

Regarding playing quality: there will always be Village Idiots, and there will always be players who refuse to lynch them because they might be town. My personal rule of thumb: if you take an action that you would take as scum 100% of the time because it's good for you, but that you may do as town as well, I'm going to lynch you for it because it makes you far more likely scum.

Hi to all the familiar faces, btw!

I think at some point people caught onto the fact that walls are more effective if you let other people's posts break them up, because it makes them look less like walls.

I think keeping your posts succinct and simple to digest with a handful of walls sprinkled in only at crucial times is the most efficient way of having your voice heard without it being ignored. Players who wall too much or reply to every inane thing tend to get their posts skimmed over, which waters down their influence at times where they actually have something important to say.

If you want your walls, or posts in general, to be read then you direct them to a particular audience in the way it will appropriately reach them. Posts to no audience be a waste of space and time, but posts that be for the right (intended) players be what move the game. Speaking to your audience be key for getting your way. Vi knows what Troll be talking about. Them will confirm if them be watching.

I feel like somewhere on my wiki I describe someone (was it you? was it even on my wiki? I said it once) as saying things that look like awwp waa waaaap waaaap waaaaaap when it's not addressed to you, but when they are talking to you it's like someone put the Babel Fish in your ear for that post only. Or maybe it was that worm from The Wrath of Khan. Either way.

The principle is true; there's still the hurdle of actually convincing the person you're speaking to, which with people who do what they want and don't care what you think is a pretty tall order.
Everything you say and do matters. People will respond in ways you may never see. May those responses be what you intend.

I skimmed and saw something about post game: I dislike it when mod's and players don't really discuss post game. Like we played this serious and long game of mafia and then that's it? It's why I usually try to make a shoutout as a mod in post-game, and as a player.

Anyway, I didn't know this was happening because I have taken a break from mafia, but hearing about this makes me sad. It also makes me feel old too.

TL;DR: Pokemon go sucks.
