Won a game as scum this way, at one point I pretended I wanted to get the game moving but then I just gave up.In post 24, Raskolnikov wrote:If there are other people coasting and the game is in danger of an apathy spiral/essentially dying, then also coasting as scum is just too optimal to pass up.
I'd argue that being "that guy" to drive a game going and keep everyone engaged is just too beneficial for town even if it makes you get townread... in general I see a lot of scum do pro-town things and help town and I just don't think it's worth it for them most of the time lol.
But I was in like 6 games at that point lol- Infinity 324

at the end of the day I'm confident I can win as scum and I'd rather win a game where everyone is active than win a game by coasting through an apathy spiralThere's nothing that says that a fake can't beat the real thing.

I agree, there is no fun in coasting. I'd rather lose pushing town to play actively than win in a ghost town. I'm up for a challenge, that's why I sign up for these games.
Regarding players who have impressed me, none here so far. On another forum however, I've played with a guy who is incredible at reading players as town, his scum game is very lackluster because of it but he has literally never had a mislynch in his entire time playing i.e. pushed for a player and that player flipped town.
There was also a game I was 3rd party against the guy and D1 he called me out as 3rd party specifically which really surprised me because IDK how someone could determine the role so accurately. I personally have a horrible time finding 3rd party scum, it's like the bane of my existence because most of the clues I use to find scum aren't applicable due to them having no team mates and pro-town play being part of their win condition. I end up blindly pushing to lynch my town reads and completely ignore the scum, or I lynch all of the scum and end up getting mislynched myself for pushing on the wrong town read that is actually town who then lynches me with the SK lol.- BrainpanSonata

When an SK in a role madness faked his own death via a one-shot ability, skirted the activity rule by offering to sub in for a modkilled player, later popped back up to hammer a scum, fooled town into thinking he was no longer a threat (even though he'd daykilled a Townie who was in an A vs B with the hammered scum), and won the game. Honestly, I blame the Mods for making his role so OP.
And then there was the time that a skilled player who'd finally rolled scum for the first time played desperation pseudo-vig RL with the D1 lynch, then steered two more townie lynches on the following days. The only thing differentiating his scumplay from his townplay was which side seemed to benefit more from his actions.Video games can be educational. The Oregon Trail taught me that Manifest Destiny is fatal.

Yeah. We didn't know otherwise, because there'd been a flip included in his fake death. Like I said before, it was an OP role in a bastard role madness, but he figured out how to work it so skillfully. In post 35, Infinity 324 wrote:

Ok it might be justifiable for dead town with non-information roles to replace (as long as they can replace both town and scum). But a living player in the game replacing someone else in the same game is just preposterous. In post 39, Vijarada wrote:Different mafia forums are basically the wild west (with exceptions). He wasn't actually allowed to replace, because 1) we don't let dead players sub in for other slots (there would be an uproar if such a thing were to occur) and 2) he wasn't actually dead.
The SK managed to figure out how he could make his minimum posting requirement for the day phase without tipping off that he wasn't really dead.Video games can be educational. The Oregon Trail taught me that Manifest Destiny is fatal.
