Why would you do this?

I just played a Marathon type game on another site and my partner on a two man Mafia team bussed me day 1, in a daystart game. Why would anyone do this? It sets a bad tone for the rest of the game, putting the team to one day one. This is for all practical purposes A GAMETHROW.

Bussing a partner is a valid strategy, as leading a lynch on a scum usually gives them town credit to coast with/to build on.

Now, bussing EFFECTIVELY is a whole different matter.
(And sadly, bad play does not equal throwing.)

The problem is this is Day 1, with a two person team. I saw on the three person distancing topic that bussing loses effectiveness after a few days. This game lasted to day 5 at least. Therefore, the bus was likely ineffective in the end. Unless the drop in effectiveness stems from the length of a forum game.

unless it gives you so much massive towncred it wins you the game.

if it gives you so much towncred, town eventually starts wondering why you haven't been NK'ed after a while.

The first time I was scum I accidentally bussed my partner on day 1, and was then written off as obvtown by most players and coasted through to endgame with zero problems thanks to being in a set-up where everyone was a bodyguard.
The second time I was scum I hardbussed my partner on day 1, and the cop then investigated me night 1.

McMenno makes the most important post in the thread.

If yes: lol ok, mafia is a team game and sometimes you don't control the outcome much
If no: lol ok, mafia is a team game and sometimes you don't control the outcome much
Everything you say and do matters. People will respond in ways you may never see. May those responses be what you intend.

Not if your partner is skilfull enough to capitalize on the towncred

i sense some bitterness here...

it is pretty flagrantly suboptimal though b/c of all the stuff ppl already mentioned + you're conceding more power to town PRs like tracker, roleblocker, jailkeeper, and things that get more powerful w/ just one scum

That's why you no-kill gambit once in awhile
Join me on my quest to play every NES game! Some of them are awful.
