In the name of queue, can we ban hydra?

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Sun Sep 11, 2016 4:57 am

Post by Realeo »

It irritates me that a game can have a hyrda or two but it failed to fill in 7 days due to lack a player. I mean, if the hydra split, the game is go.

I have no problem with hydra. Personally, for me, they provide unique experience. I can't find hydra in epicmafia.com, for instance.

But I realized that

(1) it makes the game harder to fill
(2) eventually, one head will shut up. Essentially, only one head plays.

We do have the rule where both head must play and we can replace them later, but why go to the trouble of making the game harder to fill if we're going to replace them anyway?

In the name of queue, can we ban hydra? We can 'disband' hydra during summer and Christmas where the number of players is high.

I think your assumption that both heads would play if hydras weren't allowed is flawed.

i also think this is flawed. whenever i sign up as a hydra i either want to play the game in a hydra or not at all and i think a lot of other ppl are the same way.

I think something that might be interesting to consider would be a rule that, if a game fails to fill on time but it would have if all hydras were split up, the hydras automatically split up, so that joining a game as a hydra means that you might be required to play solo if that's necessary to fill the game. if there are 2 or more hydras and not all of them are needed to split up, then choose the ones that do at random (or possibly default to always choosing the first or last ones to have signed up? I'm not sure which of these three options would be fairest). basically, the idea would be to make signing up as a hydra a commitment to play in the game in whatever form causes the game to successfully exist.

of course, this might lead to situations where hydras simply /out before the time limit for the game to fill is reached, but hopefully players who do that on a frequent basis would be noticed and that this behavior would be discouraged.

Even if one head shuts up, that doesn't mean the other head isn't talking to them behind the scenes and trying to get input to help them in the game.

I don't always think both heads need to post. Sometimes if you are feeling more into the game you might want to post more than your hydra head who is either not motivated/lost/or doesn't feel their voice needs to be heard.

I like this idea. This kind of flexibility could be very beneficial. The only downside I can see is if one of the randomly chosen hydras takes offense at being split without prior notification of the selection.

I think that depends on the queue more than anything and I also think it could actually make the idea more feasible. If a hydra isn't willing to solo, open up the slot for players who are.

this

the only thing i could see coming from that kind of rule is either: the hydra /outing before the timer gets to zero OR people from split hydras just replacing out. and everyone being frustrated at a stupid rule.

the academic year just started so yeah the queues are probably going to be slow right now. a rule change isn't really solving anything here.

Thing is (and I don't like hydras) plenty of people simply wouldn't play without them, whether because they just want their friends there (for which the game is full) or they just don't like playing solo

I wouldn't call it cheating

Just annoying

and anything legal, by definition cannot be cheating, since cheating is the violating of rules to gain an unfair advantage

I mean words have meaning

And when you call everything cheating then it makes it easier to get away with REAL cheating by diluting the accusation

Sorry but I'm just really tired

In Mafia, all advantages are inherently unfair to someone
