Going to have to flatly no on that. There's a list of people I'd be afraid of facing as scum and I think Vecna has a key weakness that prevents him from being on that list.In post 202, rb wrote:i actually think Vecna is one of the best if not the best player on the site currently- Ranmaru

Nacho was in my newbie game I played, and I crushed him if I recall correctly.
The best players on this site (other than myself) are Regfan, MoI, and Vi in that order. I don't know if they still play, but they were definitely the strongest players I ever saw.
Faraday, CES, and Spyrex all overrated. Surprised no one has mentioned MoI yet.- Mulch

Yea f that spyrex how dare he.
I think the funniest part is how many of these names i remember from the good ol days as simply 'players'. Good games, bad games happened and you knew they were good but it wasnt till much later you could look back and really realize how good they were.
And a lot of them, more important than winning, were good at making the game fun. The right balance of wit and logic that turned into games people remembered.
So as a player was i overrated? Probably. But as a merchant of memories and fun? I'll wear that badge proudly forever.- RadiantCowbells

I think that everyone who is overall good at town now has games that are too recent where they were town and just totally fucked stuff up and that makes it difficult to name them.
In like, 2-3 years, I think the collective memory will be much better at determining who actually was good at town in the present than we can come up with now.
Or another way of saying: I think that Vecna and Leon are so highly regarded because they haven't been around long enough to have royally fucked up some games that everyone will hold against them.
For everyone else, the marks against them are too near.2019 stats: Town WR 76.7%, overall WR 81.667%, 1 scum defeat involving a major mod error in lylo vs 8 scum wins.- Errantparabola

I think that Spiffeh deserves to at least be mentioned in this thread. He's generally excellent as both alignments. (Although it may just be possible that my period of prime activity coincided with a hot streak. Even so, that's a hell of a long hot streak.)did another ms user do something lovely? recognize their achievements here!

Some anecdotal evidence that I can vaguely remember, I've played quite a few games with him.
In DEFCON, Spiffeh I think was fluke-nuked (what a great term that I just coined, can we keep using it in some context) as scum, but aside from that basically mass townread iirc. I also think that as scum he is generally very talented at increasing presence and aggression in a way that just diffuses general suspicion on his slot. Cheetory mafia vaguely comes to mind.
Even back in the early Spifflop days he was generally a very strong town leader, tended to get killed early with good reads. Sometimes he just melts scumteams like in the Kuribo Large Theme. I have distinct memories of being a vig once (it might have been a marathon) and only landing on scum, just because I shot who Spiffeh scumread. I really can't think of an instance where Spiffeh has totally fucked up, even in town losses.
Paragon well deserved, and I think he's one of the few players that plays town at that caliber, and is also pretty fearsome as scum.did another ms user do something lovely? recognize their achievements here!

If i was an artist you'd have an ur-quan shedding tears.
Ive looked at games recently and i just dont get it. It was hard a year ago but man it feels like its moved past acidity to the ur-acid that destroys hope and forces a time vortex where posts must happen in minutes not days and no one is having fun.
I'm figuring this is just a subset of games and i remember plenty of bad ones i was in, but i think that the worst of those still was more palatable.- Vi

I agree with the above post and that SpyreX being a highly-sought fun person. And also that the worst games from pre-2015 were better than basically all of the games I've played since.

The kids are alright. They just need time to make youthful mistakes they can learn from. Like playing Mafia. In post 220, Papa Zito wrote:By abandoning the game the children have no betters to look to.

I mean seriously you could bring twelve of the absolute best people of all time back for a closed invitational and it would be great for the first five pages and then everyone would be like "oh. it's this shit again". Or at least that's how I'd feel, dunno about others in my age bracket.Everything you say and do matters. People will respond in ways you may never see.
