Imagine a game that had a mechanic where the thread is never locked

Or a game where anyone can post in the thread, even if they are not in the game, or if they have died

Of course this would mean you would have to have no dead/spectator thread and no spoilers as well

Do you think this mechanic would maf or town favored?

if there's a strong player and killing them just treestumps them and confirms them as town that sounds town sided, and having a council of conftown to help decide a lylo seems like an advantage

also id imagine problems with allowing mafia to keep posting if lynched... their goal then just becomes lowering the quality of discussion which is pretty much done through spamming or trolling

No reveal sounds like a good fix for the first issue
Second issue could still be a problem even if no reveal

This sounds pretty cool.

The first "issue" is not really an issue and can be resolved by less town PR's for example. No reveal also does it though.

The second issue would have to be resolved with a special exception for dead scum, or a special rule.

This has been done. It was a shit show because everyone PM'd half the site and 90% of the people posting weren't players. I don't remember the name of the game.

apart from the anyone who wasnt playing posting it would be an interesting mechanic as long as night play was mafia sided and conf towns were hard to find

i remember playing in a 'party themed' mafia like this where anyone could drop by but weren't given a slot.

it was a mafia blowout because my homesite never grew out of loaded slots and nightplay and this was probably the one game where the town was almost entirely vanilla outside of open setups. i think the spectators did more harm than good but a determined spectator could ruin the game for scum. you'd had to enlist purposely annoying specs to have any sense of balance.

i've been thinking of a "town encryptor" role that would allow thread nighttalk. think that alone is ridiculously town-sided.

wasn't that the gimmick behind Always On Mafia?

I remember it ended up with pretty much the entire site helping town because scum was obviously too afraid to out themselves to anyone on the site

My problem with this is that outside posters could influence town. I also don't really want a game where I have to sort through 100s of ego posts to isolate the players to get reads.

I mean, I've played games with Night chat allowed in thread. It changes the dynamics of the game quite a bit.

On part 1, I agree that making it a no reveal is most sensible.

On the issue of Scum shitposting, just make a post restriction for anyone who has died/isn't in the game so that they can't do so without being made neutral survivors, essentially auto-losing.

And by that I mean that they don't close the thread after Day Lynch, none of that other stuff that I am aware of, but they do have their own completely different take on how to play such as RID kills and claiming is frowned upon.
