There's nothing that says that a fake can't beat the real thing.
You must not imagine that for beings like you and us there can be laughter. The low men laugh, and we envy them. But for us, the higher ones, there is no laughter, only an unending vigil, purely serious, stretching on into the night.

Yeah, both DN and mafia involve trying to find who the killer is while starting out with little evidence, they both have a lot of stupid people and a lot of really smart people, Lind L. Tailor is basically the Oracle (this version) because he reveals Light's role to L, Near is the one who stalks the mod while he's creating the role PMs,
Spoiler: SPOILER ALERT
L's death was like when you lynch a really scummy player and think you've won but they're a vanilla townie, and Light declaring that he won against Near is when that scum player quickvotes in LyLo but then realizes that player wasn't at L-1.

it was an easy mistake to avoid
could have had the other dude remove some pages from the death note for the showdown and made the validity of the actual notebook moot
no reason to suspect near would screw with the book like that

I mean yes it's optimal but I won't blame him for not being 100% optimal

I thought The Circle was actually pretty good. I love social experiment movies. At first I was like "ehh they are contriving stuff to make stuff happen", but after a short time you realize they're just making it work and it is fine for what they're doing and it is well done overall. There are abunch of things I would have done differently to make it even better though.
I want to get my eyes on Mafiya, even though it looks horrible.
There are other similar-ish movies, but brain is asleep I can't think of them now will come back later if I remember.
Mafiya isn't great. But I may have just had a bad translation. It has bouts of 5-6 minutes of arguing followed by 10-15 minute long death sequences and 5-10 background stuff.
Circle is good near-pure mafia.
Cry Wolf is based on mafia, and is kinda okay.
The Thing is a good "who is the alien among us" paranoia sci-fi.
A lot of horror movies can be mafia-esque. Think Scream as the protagonist tries to figure out who the kill is among people they know.
Identity is a horror movie with "people are dying off, one of us is the killer" scenario. Same with anything based on Ten Little Indians (there been a few versions, but And Then There Were None (1945) is a really good one).
And Then There Were None is definitely a bastard game
