I've noticed a lot of people who are consistently V/LA on weekends. While this is fine in principle there are also prod timers and it often overlaps with general inactivity and I've been stymied as to how to deal with it as a mod. Would appreciate any input.
2019 stats: Town WR 76.7%, overall WR 81.667%, 1 scum defeat involving a major mod error in lylo vs 8 scum wins.

If anything, ask for the player to PM to inform you of the V/LA over Weekends, or add it to your ruleset and just take a mental note that it's the weekend and to not send a prod around then?

Count weekend V/LAs as part of the prod timer. If they can't find enough time to make even 1 post a weekend(assuming a 48 hour timer) then they might not be the right fit for the game anyway. Seriously, all they have to do is tap out a quick "hey all, so and so is still scum, plz lynch" while they're heading to work or the beach or whatever it is that makes them V/LA.

Accountant you don't take into consideration that some people are religious and aren't avalable on weekends due to religious reasons.

I feel it's the responsibility of the player to post their V/LA but unless the game is some sort of blitz, being gone for 48-hours tends not to affect the game.

I'm regularly V/LA on the weekends. If this is the weekend and I've not said otherwise, please assume I'm on V/LA.

I go camping where there is no service at all, not even 1x. I typically announce it though.
Other possible reasons are you have your kids on weekend, or are a kid and don't want to miss time with mom/dad, or are not allowed electronics, etc.
I would never find reason to doubt RL. Yeah it's a game that one joins voluntarily, and it does affect other people, but we should all chill.

In my modded games I put "weekends count as 1 day" in the ruleset, though I'm also pretty complacent about prods anyway.
It's also easy enough to deduct from the prod counter if you forget someone is V/LA (or one of the no weekend folk) and send a prod anyway.

There's nothing that says that a fake can't beat the real thing.

I'm not generally available on weekends. I spend 60+ hours in front of a computer M-F, so if I don't sit in front of one on Saturday or Sunday, I'm OK with that.

I do try to post on Friday, and am almost always back on Monday, so don't worry overly much about the 48 hour prod timer.

If I take longer, I try to set actual V/LA.

When modding, I check in on weekends because I owe vote counts, and it's an obligation I took on, so I make time, since I get that lots of people post on weekends.

However, I will usually send out prods Friday, then take action or new prods on Monday. This gives weekenders what they need, but also gives them Friday or Monday to make a post.

Here's an idea I came up with

Standard set 2 prods allowed per day phase but you get replaced if you have to be prodded twice 2 consecutive day phases.
OR you may choose for a weekend to count as 1 day but then you can only be prodded once per day phase.
2019 stats: Town WR 76.7%, overall WR 81.667%, 1 scum defeat involving a major mod error in lylo vs 8 scum wins.

Is it really that big of an issue tho?

10/14 days is 70% amount of time where everyone can theoretically be active.

Also with the standard playerlist, you'd usually have at max 3 players who do that so there is still over half the playerlist that can actively post.

In the instance that brought this up Pere was prodded several times outside of weekends as well and I don't want to be making it easier for scum/town to lurk games out.

But if it's a continual 'I can't post weekends but want to be active outside of that' I am trying to work that out

in general, i think we should expect people who go V/LA to post the day after the V/LA ends.
otherwise they should have declared for an extra day.
so people who V/LA on weekends should post on mondays. shrug. maybe not.

I've always thought of prods as friendly reminders and not some guideline to follow to avoid being replace. Replacements should be for flakers and requests only.

Yeah, that's a great definition, but how do you tell the difference between mostly flaked and flaked?

The reason I was asking about point of view is about relative impact of different approaches. I agree it would totally suck to come up against hitting a fixed limit on number of prods and finding yourself replaced when you meant to come back, especially if one or more of them should not count due to a VLA or scheduled off days or clerical error. On the other hand it inconveniences at least 3 other people (2 players plus a mod) to have to wait for the chronically inactive to arrive and progress the game state. So a moderate amount of harm to one player vs. a smaller chronic individual harm to each of potentially 30+ people.
