Reading the thread before replacing in
Is it ethical to read a game before offering to replace into a slot? You can garner opinions from ignorance in a similar way to playing without reading your role pm.- Sunlit Diamond

I read the thread before replacing in because that way people don't have to wait for me to get caught up after knowing I've joined.
To explain: if I read first, someone else has the opportunity to replace in while I'm doing it. If I wait, the players have no choice but to wait for me.
Also? Frankly, there are play styles and scenarios I have no interest in willingly contending with. Reading ensures continued sanity for all concerned.Bipolar • ADHD • Call me Sunny • GTKAS

Just don't give replacements a halo. Also if you're trying to read a player by their entrance where they read the game before coming in, you're looking in the wrong place for a read anyway. In post 0, Flubbernugget wrote:Is it ethical to read a game before offering to replace into a slot? I replace in to about half the games I play.
Sometimes I read/skim before I offer to replace, sometimes I read before I post, sometimes I do neither. I've actually sorted people out sometimes from asking questions like "What should I know?" or "What are the important events?"
I certainly don't think it's unethical to read a game before you replace.- mhsmith0

I find it perfectly ethical to read games before replacing in, and tend to do so fairly often.
In particular, I tend to:
1) Avoid games that are flagrantly toxic and unpleasant
2) Avoid games where I'm pretty sure I'd be replacing into a scum slot (since I dislike playing scum)
Sometimes I YOLO a replace in though *shrugs*
But I'd say the more unethical thing is the lazy/easy way that a lot of people replace OUT of games, rather than issues w replace-ins.Showhttp://wiki.mafiascum.net/index.php?title=Mhsmith0

It's not unethical, but I make it a point not to read the thread until I replace into the slot. Only thing I really look for is whether anyone I hate is already in the game.In post 0, Flubbernugget wrote:Is it ethical to read a game before offering to replace into a slot? Then again I also make it a point to try and not read the thread after I replace in either.Join me on my quest to play every NES game! Some of them are awful.

I decided to post "haha just don't post that in the main thread", but to get up to date on the main thread first.
