Avoiding mod spew ethically

Is it ethical as a mod to try and forget who is scum in my game so I can publicly answer questions without bias to avoid mod spew?
Or as a mod am I obligated to know what alignments and roles my players have?

You should be able to answer questions without bias. If you can't, then you don't answer the question, you get a list mod to intervene instead.

The players should know you'll ignore alignments while answering questions.

Have objective rules for which questions you'll answer. In particular, if players' alignments even matter for what your answer is, you should probably just refuse to answer the question.

A potential exception here: it's normally OK to answer questions from scum that assume their buddies are also scum, unless you're in some sort of crazy bastard setup where scum factional knowledge is unreliable.
