How to not make false statements

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Wed Jan 31, 2018 1:00 am

I just had a question here.

So it's probably going to happen once where other players tell you that you made false accusations or interpretations.
Whenever someone says you did such something false, what's the best way to explain you saw it different?
Or maybe better: How can you verbalize your thoughts without sounding too accusing or exaggerating?
This is a problem that I often run into... help me become a better player :]

@Bolded: Just do it. But do it hard. Make a 20 slide powerpoint on why you are right and they are idiotic.

Just roll with it and stand by what you said and explain your reasons for interpretation. Don't be afraid to ask what their perception of an event/statement comes from. By asking them why they view someone as X, you're throwing the ball back in their court and allowing a diversity of viewpoints to flow into the discussion.

The problem with accusations of false statements and interpretations is that people fall into the trap of making those based on their own picture of the game in their head. A lot of people never bother to try to see the game from any other perspective.

I guess also consider the chance that you are wrong. If you do, then you will be able to learn and have better chances of being right.

yes, self reflection will improve read accuracy, but this you can do postgame at your own pace

building self-confidence and maintaining a sharp instinct is equally if not more important. This process is more gradual. Being constantly worried that your interpretations might not fall in line with what the majority thinks hinders this process to a great extent.

there is no universal method by which words are interpreted, in a game of deception. So the best way to assert that your interpretation might be different is to simply state that it is an interpretation.

To expand on this, try writing your point in sharpie on your hand while covered in your own blood

It isn't your job to explain it. It is their job to explain why their statement is valid. Don't let the next part of the conversation be about anything other than the fact that they just called you a straight up liar without any backing of it whatsoever.
I have a degree in bullshit. I have patents on entire lines of bullshit. So don't sit here and feed me a line of bullshit and think that I'm not going to recognize it as one.
