Why, or why not? How?

you have to stop making threads with one line ops

Psyche is lambasting the OP because they aren't a member of the same clique. Outgroup derogation is impacting MD as well as games.

Ill worded but there's definitely a similar effect

I'm categorically less likely to townread a capable player who I haven't played with much (lack of a 'feel' for their playstyle / idea of their ability as scum) honestly.

Fmpov I don't think it's an issue of specifically wanting to play within cliques--probably more so lower level of confidence in playing to wincon with unknown factors around

Happy for people to shoot me down here. :P just doin some stimulatin

Games have a tendency to shit the fan on a dime so I'm a lot more willing to keep people I actually have a pretty positive opinion on alive regardless of read just so the game stays bearable to play.

Yeah I'd say cliques play a lot into things. First time I played a normal with Boonskiies and his "boon babes" I had no idea wtf was going on. I had fun with it though. And now I enjoy playing games with some of those people.

I think there are some games i shy away from because of the group's that are in there, cause I feel like their relations with Each other would over power my Game play/experience.

this is something i was going to talk about in the how to be good town thread but never got round to posting

it was mentioned a lot that charisma is essential to leading town to success

however, ive noticed player reputation seems to trump that because player X thinks player y is amazing town, ill just sheep or tunnel at the slightest sign of scum

when that happens, there is no telling them

Yeah there's definitely a ~dark side~ to sheeping. I'll be the first one to sheep when it's called for but just following the most charismatic player or the player-who-is-best-at-town off a cliff is bad as...

I don't see how there is any answer to this other than an uncontroversial "yes."

Reads are based off of interactions, and you can't have a clique without interactions either.

I have literally seen things like "I don't want to argue with them because it will ruin my friendship" and "I don't want to lynch them since I like them" of course that could also just be things that scum say....

Being likable and friendly are good ways to not get lynched. We are only human so a players status with another player will affect how we read/interact said slot. Of course, there's the hubris effect where one says they can read a slot b/c they know the person. But I think if you are not lynching players just b/c they are your friends then its playing against your wincon (if you are town)

well done.

Can you tell me a story about a "capable player" who you played with? What made them stand out in your mind as capable?

Yeah I totally agree. I would add that there is also hubris about the idea of "status" itself.
