With discussion happening around a possible deadline change to newbie games and what might happen for future demands, this poll was created as a way to get discussion rolling!

Please don't be afraid to comment and add to discussion! Keep it civil!

I'm enabling you to change your vote in the future because life happens and your answer may change because of that!

Let me know if there needs to be more variety in the options!

Absolutely, and it'd be great if shorter-deadline games were a lot more frequent onsite.

10 days is my personally perceived "optimum length"

@Ausuka - What's the shortest day length you'd be willing to play a game under? Offsite I used to play with Days that would last 20 hours and I think that's cutting it a bit too close for me ATM, especially when the game might start when I fall asleep! XD

Shortest I'd be willing to play is 2 day deadlines. 20 hours is really, really short yeah :P

@Ausuka - Since time is money, when do you think is the optimal time for shorter deadline games to start? The weekends, the beginning of the week, the middle of the week, etc?

It's hard to say because everyone has different times when they are active. Personally I am most active on weekends but many others are totally absent at weekends (admittedly, such players are unlikely to be playing short deadline games) and yet others are less active on weekends. So I'd probably say it should start on a week day? And maybe it's also best to time the night deadlines so that you don't have more than half of the day taking place during weekends.

I want same deadlines but shorter prod times

Oh yeah... I completely forgot about night deadlines! XD

@Ausuka - For the two day deadlines, how long do you think the night deadlines should be?

@Gamma - How long do you think the night deadlines should be for a day phase length of 10 days?

Pedit:

@RC - How short should the prod timer be?

I suggest reviving the blitz queue

36 hours would be worth trying

Blitz queues can still be run in the mini theme queue, just that people don't often run them.

Also, I suggest pullarity lynch games with a shorter deadline. I mean automatically lynching the player with most votes if no majority is achieved during the day! This will help faster games to be more about mafia than the wagonomics and buffs the town in a positive way.

Normally 1 day I think.

A separate queue like blitz will help people who want faster games recognize them. If MS wants to adopts faster games as a part of its culture - which was my impression - having a separate queue for it will help it a lot.

72-24 for only majority and 36-12 with pullarity lynch are my suggestions. Both are widely used out of MS and people like them.

This definitely would be a thing in a game with shorter deadlines, especially with a blitz deadline.

@Ausuka - I'd probably bump up the night length to 36 hours just because the mafia (and this maybe exclusively be for the mafia who can only talk during the night phase) might be at a disadvantage if a buddy is sleeping when the majority of the night occurs.

2 days
fyi I think 24 hour nights are okay but 12 hour is not okay

My offsite blitz games
always
gave the mafia the ability to talk throughout all phases of the game because of shortened day and night lengths. If the mafia were only allowed to talk during the night and someone wasn't awake or online during that period, it puts the mafia at a disadvantage.

@Gamma - Yeah... 12 hours is cutting it a bit short, especially if you have a role madness game. You'll be cutting off the nose of some players by virtue of time zone differences. Ouch.

Other sites are running 12/12 games (12 hours day) with 80+ players

and people have time zone issues but games fast like that are good for larger scales.

I think 72 - 24 is good cause it allows a full night to mafia team and removed the time zone issue

@Frozen Angel - Can you explain please? I can't see how the 72/24 arrangement removes the time zone issue.

The 24 hour night means everyone will be available during night phase. All time zones have a colliding time so people will be able to talk to each other.

Also allowing day chats in blitz games should be a thing because that will help.

I'm just going to note that non-response bias, especially from newbies and very old people (in terms of site experience, not age) is going to be a thing, and it is unlikely this poll will end up being representative.

That said, I'm in favor of between 7-10 day deadlines tbqh. I'm not quite a fan of 2 weeks because it always seems too long.
