Something underrated nowadays
Why can't we just let scum pick their own role PMs during pregame?
This could be like allowed in normals too or even opens.Sigh- TTTT

oh hey there capn crunch have fun in dead thread byeare you saying the scumteam divvies 'em up amongst themselves?
so in a Newbie the more experienced player could be like...
"hold up a sec lynchbait... let me take that roleblocker PM"2019 stats: Town WR 76.7%, overall WR 81.667%, 1 scum defeat involving a major mod error in lylo vs 8 scum wins.- Ramcius

Creature's actually been scum in a game where he had the opportunity to swap role PMs with a teammate pre-game. (It wasn't my idea or my game, but I was watching from the mod thread.)
I don't think it'd work well with newer players, because it wouldn't be clear to the players who should get which role or how much they'd enjoy each role, but I think it might work well when the scum team are experienced and generally know each other.scum· scam · seam · team · term · tern · torn ·town- Creature

I'd actually be pretty interested to see more of it in theme games and the like. podoboq including it in his game was clever since one of those scum roles would have been horrific for a newbie (and, sure enough, the newbie took that role -- and I think he struggled a little. )- FakeGod

I've considered doing this many times, and I've ultimately decided against it because I didn't want newbies and "bad players" to end up with weak roles. My favorite site mod is Zor Tester.

I think it could be tested with one swap and work to full teams later.ShowThe scum had the misfortune of Titus being absurdly accurate on day one.Really quite impressed by that.~Drixx
You're letting Titus win the game by herself.Good luck now I guess. You have no chance to win.~Tywin

It's a decent option in themes. I don't think it makes particular sense to incorporate in normals (or newbies); it adds complexity (which normals want to avoid for various reasons) without really that much gain imo, it would make confirmation phases harder (because if scum don't all confirm in pregame, suddenly they've lost their ability to swap), and it has the already-mentioned potential for abuse (all it takes is one rude scumbuddy to a new player demanding that they get a power role to turn someone away from the community, even if this hasn't happened previously in practice).- Ramcius

Um, roleswapper was a goon (he had no other abilities besides swap) and he got lynched D1, others were rolecop, ninja jk and 1 shot strongman + sorta trackerish role. So I think we chose best option to keep our actual roles alive over ability to swap them on the fly for the cost of one of themIn post 11, Jingle wrote:It was poorly utilized by scum as a full game mechanic in GIFs fallout game. You are aSinister Barometer.
If you are lynched Day one, you lose. Night one, select a new permanent role: 1-shot BP lyncher with the target of your choice and a 1 charge doc ability, fully bulletproof ninja Serial Killer, or Traitor (you promote into mafia goon when the first mafia dies).
You may begin using that role immediately.
You have the wincons of that new role."Let us say that you are right and there are two worlds. How much, then, is this 'other world' worth to you? What do you have there that you do not have here? Money? Power? Something worth causing the prince so much pain for?'"
"Well, I..."

Should never be allowed in normals. The basic mafia expectation is for roles to be assigned. You can definitely do something like this for themes though. (And also some open games.)

That's kind of my point. It was a role in a recent game. It has a lot of potential as something interesting. It was lynched D1, and as such had very little impact on the game, thus was poorly utilized. I'm not saying that it was wrong to let that slot go down, but that the potential in the role didn't really get realized. In post 13, Ramcius wrote:Um, roleswapper was a goon (he had no other abilities besides swap) and he got lynched D1, others were rolecop, ninja jk and 1 shot strongman + sorta trackerish role. If it's publicly known as a pregame mechanic I could see scumhunting via "Who would let THAT guy be the Godfather" type arguments, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but worth taking into account. Also, do we really wanna let RC always be the godfather? In post 17, Creature wrote:They die though. This is a Parachute.- Ramcius

What potential? As I see it, that role was some sort of backup, to let scum team keep all of their PRs in case one of them gets lynchedIn post 18, Jingle wrote:
