This is basically a call on mods to put this feature more in games. When I did mod I liked to add it to setups, but I didn't advertise it outside of games and just want people to use it more cause I think its a great game mechanic that would be great for games.

For those unfamiliar, last will is just a post that is made before a player is dead and given to the mod to post upon the players death. Idea is pretty simple, a player writes out the post and can contain anything from role feedback, reads, etc (no codes or anything against other rules).

I personally like this because for one it gets rid of the guessing game after players death and alleviates the need to crumb actions in case of your own death if your trying to play low profile power role (which would make it harder for scum to find power roles in theory). Beyond simple roles it can help give your last call to action in hopes the town listens to your last thoughts.

Actually I would say "Ok" but I don't think I am going to end up designing a game that could actually make use of this anytime soon.
Or design a game at all for that matter

One thing I hate about wills is there isn't really any counterplay to them.
Part of a reason why you want to night kill someone is you want to shut them up and make sure they don't get any useful information, or to try to make sure information is pernamently lost forever.
Wills kinda just, shut that down.

Last Will can be used effectively if balanced properly, e.g. the scum can do something about it.

Alternatively, allow it only for lynches and have the lynched player compose their will during the night, eliminating the effect of the lynched player happening to be online/offline at twilight. (Still not great, but this makes it not terrible.)

Is this for like just the common game? I kind of like the analyzing and questioning the dead guy’s post, but I can see this being fun if a game is being built around it.


Side note RedFlavor account was made real close to Flavor Leaf account, so seems like those couple of weeks were very Flavorful.

My join date was 7/17/17 they are 7/27/17. I just thought that looked cool, haha.

There's no point to give last wills to lynches only - you can tell all you want before your death, making it a PR is like giving VT an ultimate bah post. Last Will problem is investigatives - they can keep their checks hidden and make harder for scum to find them and if scum find them, their checks are revealed after their death. You can limit investigative power for a town or give janitor for scum. Neither of those are really appealing thing, neither is putting this mechanic in game just for shit and giggles

My homesite has implemented this in a few fancy ways (thanks to actually taking a few ideas from EM). In one game I was a will inventor essentially, another had a will enabler iirc

I think Alisae was talking about counterplaying -without- being given a role.
You can counterplay the doctor as a goon by shooting someone else.
You can counterplay the cop as a goon by not being interesting.
You can counterplay a Strongman Ninja as VT by getting most/all of your input out into the thread D1 instead of slowplaying if you think the mafia will target you.
You can't counterplay janitor without being given a role like you just don't know what happened with the kill.

I had to read about the role on the wiki and I think I didn't understand it exactly right the first time.
Massclaim does seem to mostly neuter it.

The issue is that momentum is a big part of mafia and allowing dead people to break it for scum especially in faster games is meh

I don't like the idea of the last will as presented because it makes investigatives too powerful.

I do like the idea of a player having a last will that is privately messaged to only one player of his choice.
